Default elektron machinedrum bpm slipping

hey all, i'm trying to get my machinedrum communicating with PT properly.

right now i have the MD slaved to PT's clock. whenever i record midi data, the MD's BPM slips all over the place. i was working at 110 BPM and it would fluctuate down to 96 BPM and all points in between while recording. obviously a clocking issue, but i'm not sure how to go about fixing it. the midi track timebase is in beats.

any insight?
m

other pertinent info...
running a mac pro 3.5ghz 6 core
PT version is 12.8.2
interface is a saffire pro40
