please post your system specs if possible - just trying to figure out why only certain users are getting it. I can only assume it's a small number of users otherwise it there would be more postings about it - it's a hell of a nasty bug!

mmm... yes not seeing any similarities between system specs posted so far (other than all macs), which would indicate there is nothing we can do as users to avoid it.

C'mon Avid - PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP.

mr xy : "mmm... yes not seeing any similarities between system specs posted so far (other than all macs)...."

Yup.. seems to be a Mac thing rather than a PT thing, (& not OS specific either).

A lot of Logic folks have encountered the same issue, (although not me personally) :

I think it's fair to say there are number of fault conditions which can cause noise blasts, and it can be encountered in many DAWs. However, the bug I'm describing here is a little different, and most definitely a PT specific bug, which is pretty reliably reproducible, and Avid tech support have confirmed as much, and told me they are working on a fix.

I have it about once every two weeks. It's so loud I've been looking into some sort of hardware auto shutoff device or a hardware limiter on the outputs that is completely transparent below threshold.

It happens randomly the last 2 years, actually from the moment I decided to work in Pro Tools 11 and now 12.
No this kind of problem in Logic Pro-X.
I've done everything to figure out what's happening...
I've tried 2 different sound cards, a motu 828mk3 and now an rme -fireface 802.
I bought for this reason a new computer.
I've read a lot of articles and threads.
Nothing changed...
Here is the noise blasts of the day...
I'm going away from Pro Tools definitively.
I have problems cause of these blasts in my left ear and I'm visiting a doctor.
It started the last months after I received loads of noise blasts while I was working in Pro Tools. I'l probably have a discussion with my lawyer as well.

So sorry to read about your ear problems! Wishing you a full recovery!

Similarly, I've never had these issues in 10 or previous versions, or on logic, which i run on the same system. Only since moving to 11. And actually 12 seems much worse than 11. Under 11.3.2 the issue seems to only happen with UAD plugins, although I don't rule it out happening in other cases, but under 12 any and all plugins trigger the fault.

It would be nice to get a public acknowledgement of the problem from Avid ( which could help to warn others and save someone hearing damage) along with confirmation that a fix is in the works as an urgent priority.
