Four months and one day later.

Are we the second-class citizens of Avid?

Bunches of crashes with this bug again yesterday. Every day really, but yesterday was fun. My assistant put the movies for the session on the audio drive. When I went to reopen the session I renamed our master "movies" folder for the system, not knowing the video wasn't in there. movies alskjdfhla. opened the session and crashed pro tools twice before I realized the movie file was in the session folder. nice. of course that would be "user error."

I found Another big bug on PT 8.03

You can't make a new fade in before a region dragging it with the smart tool. The fade out option works fine.
PT 7.4 & 8.01 didn't had this bug.

Try this

PT 8.03 on Mac Pro Quad 2.66 Late 2009 6GB RAM, UAD 2-DUO, Control 24, 96 IO, Presonus Digimax FS.
MAC OSX 10.6.3

Gentlemen. Fear Not. It is a known BUG. The work around is to take the video to internal before closing. I went nuts figuring this out, but thats it. Spoke to a real Digi teck and they are working to fix this. I have been flawless after I found this.
8.02cs2 /10.6.3 on an 002 box.
Cheers!

Glad I found this: I have the exact same situation, but on LE: rooted out all the obvious, couldn't find any logical reason since sessions open and operate fine and the next minute won't open at all on the exact same system (10.6.3. with 8.0.3.cs2 w. Complete PTK and 002r). No SD files, no exotic plugins, drives in mint condition and (a former reason for trouble) no audio in the DV-files.
Will try the workaround and report back.

<<EDIT: was so happy I found this, I started replying after reading the first page, not realizing this issue has been on the board for 4 freaking months!!! I used to tell clients I work with PT since it's rock-solid and never lets you down... So much for that reputation... >>

Switching video to internal (save & reopen, switch back to FW out) works for me.

Been having the same problem since I updated to 8.0.3.cs2. PT boots up fine, open session containing video, session loads until "Miscellaneous Views" begins loading, then crash. Rebooting PT gives you the Grey Screen of Kernel Panic.

System Config:
PT HD3 Accel PCIe
192 / 888|24 / SYNC
OS X 10.5.6
2 x 2.66 GHz Intel
5 GB RAM

Glad to find these work arounds, but seriously?

Consequently, pulling the FW to the canopus and opening the session worked for me too.

Oh, and I updated from 8.0.1 straight to 8.0.3cs2 so the bug's still "being worked on." At least we have each other!
