Default 3rd hard drive for samples question.

I'm planning to get a 3rd hard drive just for samples and i've got a basic question. right now i have a bunch of VI's installed on my OS HD. should i uninstall then reinstall all the VI's samples to the new drive? should i install the VI's themselves on the new drive? instead of uninstalling all my current VI's can i just move the samples to the new HD?
finally is it going to make a nice little difference keeping all those samples on a different drive. my instinct would lead me to belive it would.

thanks you in advance for any help!!

I recently switched over to a 3rd HD for samples. To be safe, I did a clean install of all my samples onto my new HD. Im sure that more compact sound files would not be a problem to just copy from your existing drive...

You should see a significant improvement in your VI performance once you move your samples to a dedicated drive(also depends on the specs of the drive you will be using..). The overall workflow for your projects will improve if you do in fact use a lot of VIs.

Good Luck!

Your actual VI programs should be on your main system drive. Your best bet is to move the sample libraries to the sample library drive. You will definitely get better performance.

Consult each manufacturer's support section or FAQ to see how to do this. It may be a little different for each one.

In any case, it's not a big deal to do this, and easier then trying to uninstall/reinstall.

thanks for the quick response.

what about things like strike, structure...reinstall all those as well?
also you just installed the samples on the 3rd drive, not the VI themselves right? thanks again.

Plug-Ins must remain on the system drive however plug-in content can reside where ever you like and a dedicated HDD for sample streaming is a good idea.

& u don't have to install the samples thatz already on a drive; just move them & when u open the program, point it to where the samples are & thatz it... don't un-re-install anything; u'd just be wasting time doin that honestly...

U could create a shortcut with the reason stuff; that 1 shouldn't have givin u a prob but just do that & see what u get; as for Vacuum, Hybrid, those I personally would leave as really those are just BIG data files & not necessarily samples per se' but thatz up to u tho... Those are still on my OS drive along with the structure stuff but I don't use any of the structure sounds...I pull in my own samples thru structure...
