Default OS software updates screwing me again

I just allowed software updater to install a battery update, a quicktime update, and an airport update. And now protools won't open at all, the icon bounces twice and then stops, no message no nothing. This same thing happened when OSX updated itself a month or so ago and I solved the problem by finding the combo update instead, only I can't find such a thing for this stuff. Honestly I didn't think things that sounded so inconsequential would have such devistating results.

What do I do?

And in the future should I refuse ALL updates? And if so, where do I find out which ones are okay?

I am using a macbook pro core duo with 1.5 gigs of ram, I have an mbox 2 and am running protools 7.3

HI,

the first thing is to stay away from the 10.4.9 update at all!!!!
10.4.8 works really fine with 7.3.1cs2

Be sure to follow the troubleshooting thread at tht top of this forum.

From Cycling '74 website:

Download and run the prebinding script supplied by PACE here: http://www.paceap.com/prebind_script.dmg

you all mean that script made your PT7.x run on 10.4.9?
Or do I miss something here?

Turn OFF the auto updater. Check with web sites like Digi to see if updates are compatible. For example, enter "10.4.9" into the search box.

Software is always going to be updated. Don't rush blindly into an update that may cripple your applications.

Yep, PTLE7.3.1cs2 is working great on my MacBook Core2Duo 2ghz on 10.4.9 with the latest security and quicktime updates.
However I did have an issue upgrading from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 when it was released. Installing the stand alone 10.4.9 update for intel fixed the issue of PT not launching. Had I known about the script it may have fixed it too.

Living on the bleeding edge of technology is fun isn't it?
