Digi 003 console not responding. Hosting only

I am running OSX Mavericks and PT 11.01. System has been working fine for about 6 months. I had a CPU usage issue and then had to do a forced shutdown. I then had I/O settings changed messages and for a few prior projects I had a really bad sound in playback but it came right so I can hear everything ok and can record but cannot use my Digi 003 console. The 1394 Host light is on. I am guessing driver or Fire Wire issue but I removed old drivers and reinstalled but no change. I don't have a spare FW cable but I doubt that's the problem.
If anyone has had a similar situation I would appreciate some assistance. I read that FW ports can fail but I don't know how to test this.

I tried changing ports on the 003 but no difference. I have only the one Fire Wire port on my iMac.

Entirely possible that the cable has failed. They do this all the time for no apparent reason. IMPORTANT: Turn EVERYTHING OFF before you plug/unplug any firewire cables.

Amen to that^^^^^ in any case, if you are able to record and playback audio, but have lost the control surface, that suggests you may have the incorrect 003 driver(this happens here if I use the driver for PT10, but run PT11.x).

I believe the PT11 driver is called Avid003 and the PT10 is called digi003 right?

I will pick up another FW cable and see how that goes.
I tried the various drivers but none worked. The original driver I used was for Mountain Lion OSX and I think PT 10. The console worked with PT 11 but not with PT10. Its all very eratic.

Just a short add-on. Is it advisable to use a thunderbolt/fire wire adapter and try running the Digi 003 via the thunderbolt port? If its possible I would just like to rule out the FW port on the iMac being faulty.

Purchased a new FW cable with same result. Tried all the different Avid 003 drivers and had issues with older versions so back to the latest version.

I may try a new download of the Latest PT 11 but I doubt that will fix the problem.
