I wonder if the kindly tech. support guy could confirm whether Leopard would run PT8 as quick as Tiger ran PT7?

I do my own tech support so I can confirm that PT8 under Leopard is noticeably faster than PT7.4 under Tiger.

G5 Quad 2.5gzh, 10.5.5 Leopard OS, with 8 gigs of ram, Digi 03 Factory. PT8 LE has been a disaster for me which is why I looked for anyone having the same problem. My cpu usage is way up with less plug-ins and crashes regularly. Clean Install of 10.5 Leopard and updated to 10.5.5 from the digi design website. I can listen back at 1024 which is useless when I want to record. Never had these problems with 7.4. Recently did a cs update but that did nothing to fix my problems. Love the PT8 interface and the new features but would love for it to work. Will be reading here for solutions and will drop them in if I find out anything. Thanks to everyone who has commented.

I've been reading for a few hours now and there seem to be a lot of people with the same woes. I did read the tech support replies and will take the time to go thru all the steps and see what happens. In the mean time, if anyone comes up with a miracle fix I'll be looking out for it.

Our tests show that there is only a marginal increase in CPU usage in PT8 compared to PT7, BUT there are many caveats to that - mainly all the points I covered in my previous post. Plug-ins are a big one - many changes there and some can cause errors and spiking, usually resolved by reducing the number of CPU's and making sure you're on the latest versions.

works fine on my G5 2Ghz DP with 10.5.6, i made just a safe uninstall and then an install, over pt7.4.2, without any issues.
my last big-phat session works fine under 8 with better performance!
some plugs don't work such as the T-Racks (needs update to 3), Inspector XL (needs upgrade to rndigital)

pt8le works also fine on my powerbook g4 1,5Ghz with the old mbox!

so far so good, no negative effects detected yet.

So, after many late nights I have solved most of my problems. It only took a fresh install of the OS, fresh install of PT8, and then going through my plugs one at a time to see what crashes when PT opens. Ironically I'm slated to tune some vocals this week and rewire does not work. Other than that most of the freeware plugs crash, no loss...I didn't even know I had so many. If you're worried you can move them to the "Unused" folder and try to find an update or something. After all this everything is running great, aside from Melodyne/Rewire. I've found PT8 to be a bit more taxing on the system than previous versions...but it could be because I was playing with the new stuff; the organ plug is "resource happy" on my machine. Best of wishes to those not up and running, take care all.

Have you noticed a performance knock? Is PT 8.0 sluggish by comparison?

Most of my work is tracking, more so than mixing, just hoping it still keeps up with the game as I can't afford the jump to a MacPro just yet and hoping i can still get 64 sample buffer stability.

Thanks in advance!

Matt
I'm going for a Mac Pro for PT's 8 + Complete Production TK, just me, I'm sure it's all compatible, but to run 128 track, I'm gonna need more grunt!
