Default Re: 2020.9!

Great to read the thread. I’ve been on PT vanilla since version 6LE. Was forced to use an Ultimate HD native trial recently as I’ve moved into post production work and quickly hit the track limit. As I discovered, disabling tracks no longer has any effect on the hard track limit

Also, 2020.9 vanilla now has a limit of 32 stereo tracks? WTF ???

Anyway, Ultimate runs great. In fact it seems to run way better than vanilla on my system. However it’s going to cost me around 400 per year (Australian) on an EDU subscription licence. In two years, that will have paid for a full licence of Nuendo EDU version.

The quality of the updates REALLY concerns me and so I’ll keep my vanilla EDU licence active (99 per year) and switch to Nuendo for my post work.

In 2020.5 in System Usage window shows Voices 128/128.
in 2020.9 shows 64/64.
I can not open 2020.5 projects
Not too sure if we are talking about the same thing or if something else has changed, but I'm using PT vanilla 2020.9 on Windows 10. I just checked, and the System Usage window (under Resources) indicates 128 voices @ 44.1KHz.

Is this true? I know there's a limit to how much IO vanilla can use and that's been 32 channels. There's no limit as to the number of tracks in a session that I know of.

I/O limit is still 32 but users have reported that voiceable tracks have been halved on standard software. Avid still has not addressed this (as it is nighttime in California now)

Vanilla has always had track limits. It was 128 mono @ 48kHz but now it looks like that’s been halved. We’re not sure if it’s a bug in 2020.9 or (as some users suspect) capitalism “gone wild” with the option to “upgrade” via additional voice tracks etc.

Also, it used to be you could get around track limits by disabling unused tracks. But somewhere along the line (can’t recall what version) AVID decided this was being too nice and track limits are now enforced regardless of disabled tracks.

Hi, may I ask which projects specifically you are referring to? Created in which version, sample rate etc? I haven't opened any older projects since I updated. Thanks.

Yes, it indicates 128, but now pt uses 2 voices for a stereo track, where before was using just 1 and was capable of 128 stereo tracks. Not anymore.

So I’m coming to do myself a favor and update to the previous version. Thank you Avid, but I don’t want to downgrade. You really show how much you care about us.

For Avid we are garbage. Hope everyone will now how we are treated.
