so they day its released the spec is

OSX 10.4.9 or higher
AudioUnit, VST 2.4 or RTAS capable host software
Native Universal Binary for Intel Macs (G5 PowerPC compatible)

knowing spectrasonics how many years till its up to todays specs
running todays current software

when a company says 10.4.9 or higher that does not mean 10.5 or 10.6
otherwise they would have said so

and there is no mention of any DAW software versions as well

I've never seen a spec that reads: 10.4.9 or higher, 10.5.2 or higher, 10.6.0 or higher.

Omnisphere runs great on my OSX 10.5.8 Mac Pro 2.8Ghz PT HD3 system. Trilian is based on the same engine.

You are saying that these companies had the foresight to predict that future versions of OS will be compatible with older versions

So If a developer starts selling software today 10/26/09 and the spec says 10.6 and above, this should mean that its compatible and tested 100% with 10.6.8, or 10.7 some year or so from now

FYI pro tools 6.9 also said 10.4.2 and above when it first came out but I dont think it works with 10.5

Pro Tools 6.9.2 or higher is required for the Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger" operating system

Hummmm so I can read into this that since PT version 7.4 is higher than 6.9.2 10.4 Should be acceptable to use for 7.4
( its the extreme example you see my point )

when Spectrasonics says today 10/26/09 that it supports 10.4.9 and above this does not confirm to me that this is 100% functional with 10.5 or 10.6 which are both the current versions of the software ( to the majority of OSX users )

I'm just saying Spectrasonics does not sound very diligent and certainly vague when it comes to the specs

When there are great numbers of problems with plugins and interoperability it would be reassuring that it at least said more info and it listed program versions that it was tested with
or is the end user to say " it works great with my rig ? "

As a customer of Spectrasonics before you knew what ram was (sorry, that was a softball waiting to be tossed - just kidding) Spectrasonics is declaring a MINIMUM spec for the software, today. It is not specifying future version compatibility.

TODAY, if you install Trilian (or however we're supposed to spell it), it WILL WORK (so they say) on a 10.4.9 rig... and PPC.

A a guy dragging along a rock-solid G5 rig (2.7DP 8GB ram/PT8.0cs3/OS10.5.8), I am happy to know that it is specced to run on my rig. I also own Omnisphere, and although it is specced for G5/PPC, it is a challenge to run more than a basic patch on the G5. but Spectrasonics tells you this. And if you aren't sure, pick up the phone and ask them -- they will be brutally honest with you.

Please, semantics are for the geeks. Spectrasonics is a company that truly wants to make instruments that work -- and it's not about the fine print... I hope you are just having a bad day.

If it had compatibility issues I'm sure they would have specified that as they did with the Mac Intel change.

Not to mention that they are very quick on updates on the software.

This is one company I have never had to worry about.
