Default PT 10 Native and 2 iLoks????

Hi,

I have PT HD Native 10.0.3 on mac pro and macbook pro. I would like to send the mixes from

mac pro to macbook pro through several equipment and dithering to 16 bits as well.

Does AVID really require that I have to buy a separate software for this?

Does anybody know how this kind of setup would be possible? I have seen similar.

I guess I would need another iLok for the macbook pro? But is it possible and how?

the rest of you question(s) are a bit vague and depend on more details that you have provided

If the second computer is just to recieve a 2 track mixdown, you don't need Protools for that. There are much cheaper software options.

Yes, it is only for that. The chain is PT 10 Native 2 track mix into Avalong 747sp into a Cranesong HEDD 192 for dithering down to 16 bits into laptop PT.
I intend to do some plugings for the 2 track mixes before hitting the Avalon.

If not PT, which software would be good for to receive 2 track mixes?
I have MBOX Pro hooked to the HEDD via sp/diff

Why not just record the two tracks back into Pro Tools on the original computer? You can then export the file to 16 bit stereo and Pro Tools will automatically apply dither. I've done this many times.

I dont think the dithering in PT is good. But in HEDD it is. There all kinds of "dithering" softwares but not many good ones. I mix back to pro tools but the mastering setup would be the one I described.

Very similar to what I like to do with a 24 bit 48K session into a 16 bit 44.1 session over analog matrix.... One Pt system to another

Instead of dithering you just record back into a session at at whatever sampling rate you want....

I have no clue If you can have 2 iloks on one compute though, I use 2 separate systems to playback and record to. both have one Ilok

You mean you have two PT licenses? What I would like to know if there is a way to have another ilok for my mixdown machine software. I dont think it is fair that I would have to buy an entirely separate software because of this.

Two machines simultaneously you would need two licenses. Why don't you use another price of software just to record or maybe on old cheaper version of Pro Tools.

I have more than 2 but for this setup I use 2 of my licenses... one for the playback machine and one for the recording. Im sure a lot of people think its overkill but If you have the equipment and your not a fan of dither than its a great solution and works the same way as laying to 2 track tape, instead of a tape machine its another Pro Tools rig.
