Default Recording to internal sata or external firewire drive?

Building a new quad core for ptle with my 002r. Is it ok to record to internal sata audio drive or is external firewire audio drive better. I have an external firewire drive but it is very noisy and I want the pc to be as quiet as possible. Internal audio drive would be 7200rpm Sata II. Thanks, Michael

Internal is fine (and better than FW) as long as it's not the drive that contains the OS and software. In other words if you want to record to an internal drive, you need two drives: one for the OS/software, one for the audio data.

Thanks for the quick reply - Yes, I will have 2 internal drives, one for os and one for audio. Maybe a 3rd for backup. Michael

I get slightly better performance on internal audio drives as compared to firewire. My computer has 5 internal drives and I started experimenting with an eSATA drive and so far, it seems to work as good as internal but the cables are not long on these things.
