Default What\'s your track count in 96k on 002?

I'm sorry if this has been posted a million times, I kept trying the search engine but wasn't getting any results.

I'm thinking about moving up to the 002 to record in 96k (using my Myteks for two channels and the 002 converters for the other 8 tracks) but was told the amount of tracks you can run at once during mixdown/overdubbing will significantly decrease.

How much worse did your performance get if you track to 96k vs. 44k?

pedrohead ,

Although I can not give you the full answer, hoping that this little bit will help;
-have recorded 14 tracks with an HD/Accel (Mac) system to my external FW hard drive and brought it back home for some editing and xfers. These were 96Khz/24bit files.
-my home system (LE,6.4/002R) was incredibly responsive, fast and did not glitch an eye..

So, 14 tracks were solid here...
hope this helps,

Just curious what music you are recording that needs 96K? Pop/rock certainly doesn't need it.

Dave,
That particular project was for for a fairly popular label, that puts out mellow instrumental world music. Instrumentation ;
-Harp/classical guitar/flute/violin/piano and some fretless bass...
All other "regular" sessions are @ 24/48...

cheers,

The big problem with 96k is plugins - they take twice as much CPU as they do at 48k. 32 tracks without plugins isn't difficult at all, with a moderately fast CPU.
