firewire 800 - digi 003
Hey there.
I'm currently in the maze of Mac, trying to figure out exactly what I can achieve now that these people have removed the firewire 400 ports on their new computers. I'm looking at the aluminium macbook pros on the refurbished section of the apple website, and these do apparently have a firewire 800 port. to be absolutely certain, i can use a convertor to plug my 003 into these things??? i also daisy chain a couple of firewire 400 hard drives after the 003. i assume this will also be possible. (ie. mac -> 003 -> hard drive -> hard drive). kind regards, oscar 003R, iMac G5 Power PC, need a new rig |

Re: firewire 800 - digi 003
Yes you can use a 400-800 converter.
You should not have the drives after the 003. The 003 should be last. If you have multiple FW drives running on a laptop, you might seriously want to get a FW400 Express card. That will increase your FW bandwidth and reduce the daisy-chaining. There is a page that Digitech support linked that explains all this stuff very clearly.. I'll try to find it..

Re: firewire 800 - digi 003
My config is MacBook Pro FW800 -> extern HD FW 800-> HD's FW400 -> 003R FW400.

Re: firewire 800 - digi 003
a little off topic but similar...has anyone noticed a jump in performance from a 400FW Drive to a 800FW Drive? Just got a new mac mini and owc FW800 drive and it works fantastic..just not sure if I do large enough projects to notice.
But if Im correct it sounds like you are getting double the transfer speed if the Hard Drive supports it. I guess my point is...since the workarounds seem easily implemented, maybe the move to FW800 was not such a bad choice by apple. Maybe someone did some testing in advanced and realized it wouldn't be that big of a deal, and forced hardware and audio makers to move forward. Someone had to get the ball rolling... |

Re: firewire 800 - digi 003
forgive my lack of intelligence on this subject, but when you say first in the chain, what do you mean, is to connect it first or does it has to do with where it is connected on the CPU.
