Default Why won't PT play back the correct MIDI note lengths?

Hi:

I just am getting to know my Pro Tools 8 system on my Mac OS X 10.6.6,
and I got a little issue I'm trying to resolve:

I'm recording MIDI from a keyboard onto an instrument track via a pro tools plug in, and all of a sudden Pro Tools won't play the actual note lengths that I recorded. Now all the notes are suddenly really staccato. How can I make it so that it plays the actual note lengths I recorded?

That's my question. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Is the keyboard connected by MIDI AND USB?

Have you tried quitting PT and re-opening the session?

If you have a real close look you will see that it is recording two notes. The one that you play (correct length) and another really short note. This short note is giving a "note off" command and that is why you are hearing what you are hearing.
Open the "midi event list" window and it should confirm what i have just explained. And if it doesn't, then I am completely wrong haha, and forget everything that i said, but I have had this exact same problem and fixed it with the steps below. This is a known problem with this version of tools.

Go to Setup Preferences and the MIDI tab and turn off the default Through instrument.
Try recording some more and check it out. This should solve the problem.

hope this helps

Thank you for your response, Bugly. Yes, the two notes is exactly what I'm seeing. I went to Setup preferences and changed the " default Thru instrument" to none, and I'm still seeing those weird little double notes, plus the notes aren't all playing, only some of them do... I also tried changing the default thru instrument to expand2, or the channel from my controller. No luck... what am i missing???

I had the same problem and it occurred to me that it might be excessive compression settings. I had 2 compressors on that bass track. I took both of them out and the problem went away. you might want to take a look at that too. Anyway that was my problem.
