Default Writing send automation with controller

I have a Novation Nocturn and a Presonus Faderport. Between the two I can write automation for everything but track sends. Anyone have any thoughts on how I can make this happen. I'm 99% sure I can't write anything with the Faderport except Volume, pan, solo and mute. I can't get the Nocturn to learn the send faders.

I'm working on a Psych/Rock record that sounds like The Black Angels or The Warlocks, and all I wanna do it automate a reverb send at the end of the vocal phrases to make the verb space more present as the vocal trails off. Not to all vocals, just the lead, so I don't wanna pump the whole verb. Id also like to make some big adjustments to some instrument verb and delay sends when the outro is happening, to give that ambient Psychodelic feeling.

Am I boofed? Any work arounds? I'm I stuck using a mouse? Thanks peoples!

I think you're stuck with the mouse, but I don't see that as a big deal. Its very easy and fast to show the send on the track(in the edit window) and use the mouse to click a couple of break points and drag the line where you want it. I do it all the time(and I have the 003 controller).

Thanks albee. You da man, as always.

I've been writing with the mouse for quite a while now and I'm just sick of it. HAHA! I was out in Tennessee a few months back working on an API Vision. I got hooked using the touch faders to do automation writes. The difference is night and day. I just feel that I can get the results I'm looking for in 1/3 of the time. Especially when compared to writing in the and adjusting setpoints by hand. In the end, I'm really just being overboard about it.

So speaking about the 003, can you write send automation on those? Do you know if it can be done via the HUI mode, or is that the limitation of HUI? I've been looking at those Mackie Universal Control Pro's. They seem nice for the price, but I think everything but the 002, 003 and large Digi consoles are forced to use the HUI mode. I was at AES in SF this year and checked out the Euphonix controllers at the Avid booth. They seem real nice, and use something other then HUI. I'm kinda blanking right now. The only problem is their price tag. Its unreal how much they are asking. I can get that new 24 channel SSL with the analog back end, for less then the same amount of channels of Euphonix.

Thoughts?

Sincerely,

Fader Happy in Frisco

Well, the 003 SHOULD be capable, but as of lately, with new drivers and PT9, the control surface is taking breaks whenever it wants. Seems the only thing that works consistently on it are the transport buttons. As of today, I cannot bank up from 1 thru 8(the MIX windows shows correct, but the 003 doesn't). I'm starting to think of dumping this and just using a Presonus Faderport as it won't be a waste of real estate on the desk

Just an FYI, Apple currently has the best price on the Euponix MC V2. $1099 is way lower than I have seen it anywhere else.

So, I hate to get off topic, but I havent dug into PT 9 yet. I was really hoping that removing all those LE limitations would help the software run a bit more smooth. Is Digi/Avid up to their old tricks of releasing software thats not working quite right? Thanks dood!

PT9 is a major improvement for me. Its not perfect, but many of my issues may be self-induced, so I am not ready to crucify Avid just yet. I can tell you that, as long as you save your work and don't try to do too much, too fast, 9 is better than 8 in a working studio.

I know this is an old thread but I just thought I'd add that yes, you can control send with the Mackie Universal Control. I do it all the time.
