Default Re: So Pro Tools 2020 doesn't work with Big Sur?

Well I can't downgrade my OS because then my Adobe suite will not work. Guess I will wait a bit to see if Pro Tools starts working, and then, if not, will try the clean install.
Man, computers are a royal pain in the keyster often.

Thanks folks,
Chris

One possible solution is to have two bootable drive (one can be external if necessary). On one drive have Big Sur for your Adobe Suite. On the other have Catalina (or any other OS version) to work with Protools. Yes, it is a bother to need to reboot, but is allows you to have a system for whichever application you need to run. External USB SSDs are relative affordable, although not as fast.

You have had a few things going on here. When facing these sorts of problems you want to separate interface driver issues from Pro Tools. Check if Pro Tools works with Built-In Output as you did is the right thing... but many old interfaces will not be compatible with Big Sur, or even more modern ones may trip up with security issues on install that you have to be careful of.

If rolling back macOS you do not need to delete or risk harming anything you have already. If you have space you can create another container on your existing boot drive and do a new clean macOS install there or maybe easier grab a external SSD and install on that, test and if it all works then clone that over your existing boot drive.

When there are problems with Pro Tools don’t forget to try trashing Prefs.

Your Mac also has less memory than officially recommended for recent Pro Tools versions. If you are running smaller sessions it may not be a problem, but be aware of that if you expect to run larger sessions or make use of memory hungry VIs.

I don't plan on doing any big projects so perhaps I am ok with the memory I have. Will be mostly recording solo guitar performances.

I still cannot import audio files after trashing the prefs so it seems like a clean install is the next thing to try.

Thanks for the continued suggestions.

I have both Adobe Photo Plan subscription and PT2020 running perfectly on Catalina, so I can't see a problem with that at all.

Hmmm. I use photoshop and premiere pro mostly and for some reason thought I couldn't downgrade to Catalina, but seems like I was mistaken. Perhaps I should move back to Catalina, thanks.

You may be able to get better help by explaining exactly what is happening. Trying to import exactly what format audio files exactly how (import menu, or drag and drop.... try both ways) fails exactly how? With exactly what error message(s). Restate all the OS and Pro Tools versions involved. Confirm the audio files are playable in another application.

OMG I just figured out that the problem is the window that shows up in Big Sur when I got to import audio to Pro Tools has to be expanded in order to see and select audio files.

I am embarrassed for wasting all of your time! It does seem like I can no longer use the Digi 003 but luckily I recently bought the SCarlett 4i4 and don't plan on doing big recording projects any time in the near future. My next thing I need to do is record a guitar solo over my friends music, so I'll see how that goes. Hopefully I can now move forward using what I have for the time being.

Thank you so much everybody for all your help and suggestions! Perhaps I should still do a clean install and will look into that.

Apparently I am not the only one having problems with Big Sur windows: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...oying.2275465/
