Default HDX Used Prices

Avid had better take notice. HDX cards can be had used easily for less than 3100.00, TDM Cards never dropped like that. I know, I've sold over 50 HD1's-HD3's in the past hey day before the decline. I went back and looked at how much I sold my last HD1 for, it was 5k in 2009.

What year did TDM Come out? Look how long TDM held its value. HDX has been selling for sub 3500 for over a year!

The arrogance this company has is mind blowing! To think they have a hold on the future and to think they can extort us with PTHD software upgrades?

If HDX was in fact that valuable to its users it would not have dropped so quickly in value! TDM held its value because it brought value and still does!

I'm a bit curious if many of these cards are from dealers that got talked into selling HD software to a great customer, and are now stuck with cards, but no software. A quick scan of eBay shows several new cards at bargain prices, but no software on many of them I considered HDX here, but after taking a chance on HDN, I am beyond happy with it at the moment

No, I've been tracking these sales since HDX came out. Most sales I've seen seem to be from average users.

On the one hand, this MAY be true, but on the other hand, if you're not selling, its irrelevant I buy stuff mostly to use, not to resell

Big +1...

It drives my realtor crazy...I buy houses to live in, and I absolutely refuse to discuss resale, investment, or anything like that.

Sometimes I've made money, sometimes I've theoretically lost money, but when my house payment is less than half of what rent would be I really haven't lost anything.

If people want to look at gear as an investment, that's fine, but you can't complain when, just as with any other investment, sometimes you lose...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

I don't think Avid is concerned about how much used gear sells for between third parties.

I suspect a fair number of people bought more than one HDX card thinking they were the same as TDM and then discovered they didn't really need all of them.

TDM held its value because it was more of a mainstream necessity. HDX is way more of a niche product. The people I know who use multi-card HDX systems either use massive numbers of simultaneous inputs or are replacing the need to run multiple HD systems.

There's also no question that Avid's biggest competition is used Pro Tools systems and systems that aren't upgraded.

Hi Barry Johns -
Where do you see cards for 3100USD - I want to buy a second card - just been to ebay and the cheapest had a starting bid of 3200 and a buy now for 4200, only one at that price and the rest are all in the 5k region. Where to go?
