PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
hi guys,
since I am on this new feature film project, several times, my macbookpro fans increase extremely their speed. I was wondering, cause I did no special actions (rendering, bouncing). I am just searching for atmos and fx stuff in the workspace and put them in my session, just 16 tracks plus video. I checked the process-monitor of OSX and everytime the fans go up, I've got three red entries in the list: QuickTime-OPServer (no reaction) Pro Tools QuickTime Server (no reaction) QuickTime_OPServer (no reaction) As you can see, one of them appears double. When I quit PT and start it again - no entries anymore. Fans go down. Problem: quit & start costs me plenty of time! (It's a big session.) How can I stop PT doing this ? Details: Mavericks PT 11 non hd movie is a *.mov - file, 4GB, 1920x1080, codec h.264, around 2hours |

Re: PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
My activity monitor in OS 10.10.5 and PTHD 12.2.1 always looks like that. I don't know why those processes report that way, but I don't think that's the cause of your fans running high.
Dropbox could be a culprit, and so could an open browser with Flash. FWIW, Yosemite and PT12 seem better and more efficient in every way.

Re: PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
well, a red entry isn't normal.
there's only pro tools running, nothing else, no email, no safari and so on. as well my session is small. when I run logicpro9 with tons of software instruments (massive, absynth, reaktor, kontakt) and many plugins (compressors, limiters, lexicon reverb) on its limit, the fans are still quiet. when I had a music for film in logic, many classical instruments (kontakt) and movie but there was no fan on. - so its not my mac, its not mavericks, its protools and/or the quicktime thing. H264 is not a good choice as it's very processor intensive. Try DnxHD or Pro Res and hopefully your fans won't go bananas. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...r-Pro-Tools-11

Re: PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
Hi guys, how can I convert a mp4 into DNxHD? I don't have MediaComposer.
I tried Apple ProRes HQ, but the file is TOO BIG (oh my god) |

Dnxhd will be bigger than pro res my freind. You can use mpeg slipstream to convert and try yourself. FYI pre res proxy is much smaller tHan pro res hq and really looks similar to me but technically it's a lower res pic.

install the Avid codecs and use Quicktime Pro

Re: PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
Also don't worry about the file size, it has no bearing on how the file plays in PT. A 50GB DNxHD movie will play smooth as butter while a 5MB H264 will choke, spit up, and hurt kittens.
It ain't the size, it's the codec.

Re: PT makes MacBookPro nervous - PT quicktime server - no reaction
well, I got now a 140GB DNxHD for a 100min movie
the mp4 is 1,4GB it's not only about memory, also about time to download, time to encode, time to copy etc. *unhappy* |
