Default Does anyone use multiple user Accounts on a MAC with Pro Tools?

Wondering If anyone knows if you use seperate users on a comuter you can set up accounts for them and have their Pro Tools setting stick?

Or are Pro Tools settings global across all user accounts?

Thanks kindly
kd

Hi,

Works very well indeed.
In the studio, we've been using this for years now, to avoid 'family'-type of disputes.

Also installed this 2 years ago at a school, with over 20 user accounts at varying access levels. And the system is still intact, if you know what I mean.

Cheers
Florian

how do you get waves to access the different accounts? I have an account for the assistants in case I'm not here but can't get waves to load.

When I asked Waves the same question:

Copy the "Waves Preferences" folder from Users > Admin > Library > Preferences to all the other Users preferences folders (Users > Username > Library > Preferences)

it worked but, I needed to enable the Super User to do it

waves are huge plugs for us. The need to work for each user. BUt if they dont show up than this will not work for us. How do I enabble super user? And what is that?

Hi,

no need for super user. Admin account will do.
There was a big change with account privileges moving from Tiger to Leopard. Apparently, doing an upgrade instead of a clean install, could cause some issues with already existing accounts.
The school setup I had mentioned uses admin accounts for staff and standard accounts for students. This also works, with all their plugs.

Cool thats sounds ok
We run 10.5.8 and 10.6.4 on the systems. PT 7.4.2 and PT 8.0.4

Can you only have one admin user? I would just make admin users for everyone

thanks kindly

Hi,

I'd keep the first account - the one OsX forces you to set up - as 'admin' with a private PW. Then the actual users by name. They should set their own PW.

The only point about making everybody admin is that you have to trust them (they can mess up the system). For those you don't, make 'standard' users with limited access.

Don't know if this changed, but when I tried using multiple accounts (albeit years ago) I had tons of issues because different users worked on the same projects (sessions). There were numerous privileges problems often prohibiting one user or another from opening/saving sessions/folders that were created by other users. We had to abandon multiple users back then, but would love to revisit it if it's working better now.
