Cool Static noise (aka White noise ) During playback. =/

Hi all,

The all so popular white noise sometimes shows its ugly face while I'm playing a track back during my mixing process. This doesn't happen every single time I'm mixing down.. just occasionally. For some reason I had this idea that the noise was a result from vibrations (e.g. bumping the table its lying on or sub-woofer hitting too hard..etc) affecting my external hard drive.
Is this possible?

If a Sandra Report is needed I will gladly post it upon request.

Thanks in advance,

Broc

What version of PT?

Not much you can do about it until this cs update with it's potential fix gets out the door.

Cool Re: Static noise (aka White noise ) During playback. =/

I didn't always have this problem. Only recently did it become a problem. I can attest that it's not only 8.0.3 (if that's the correct version), that encounters this same problem. I'm running version 8.0.1 and I'm still experiencing white noise bursts daily. Checked out the link about the update; hope it arrives soon.

Some of the reports of the white noise bug you'ld have to believe are false-positives. Maybe you have the symptom, but a different cause.

Does is it the same as the white noise from the video that was posted?

Most obvious causes apart from the bug I'd say bad pc memory or a bad plugin. From sandra looks like your not overclocking, which helps keep things stable. I assume your net card is disabled during pro tools operation.

Were you running 8.03 previously? Folks have reported reverting to 8.01 doesn't fix it unless the O/S is truly clean of PT first (i.e. something is left behind still causing white noiose after deinstall of 8.03). I dont think anyone who has had a clean o/s image and gone back to 8.01cs1 has had a problem.

...but alas maybe you (like many of us) just need the future update.

Mike.

Cool Re: Static noise (aka White noise ) During playback. =/

Mike,

I have only used LE version 8.0.1. I haven't updated to the newer version 8.3. So to answer your question; no I did not go from 8.3 back to 8.0.1 to try to fix the white noise problem. I have only owned version 8.0.1 since it was upgraded from 7.3.
I believe there is a possibility that it could be a plug-in causing this static/white noise. Is there a list of compatible plug-ins for my platform?

If this is 8.0.1 that you're using, then you're not experiencing the specific issue that Shan linked to above.

There are many, many causes for white noise - so many that I'm going to reference you to a thread that covers almost all of them. Yes, it's a lot of reading, but you should take the time to go through all of it so as to avoid situations that may lead to white noise.

Since in this case the noise seems to be drive related I thought I would point out that USB drives for Audio is not supported. Recording to the System drive is not supported. It's recommended that you have 35% or so of free space on your drives. Whether any of these issues are related to your problem is anyones guess.

Default Re: Static noise (aka White noise ) During playback. =/

I just discovered that even during a file bounce the white noise is heard and established on the final .wav file after bouncing is complete.
I have read on other threads that the white noise isn't a problem during bouncing files, but for me it seems to be. WHY? I'm seriously considering another DAW. I'm so familiar with pro tools and the way it works that I don't want to rid of it. What a dilemma! Are there any prospect dates for the update that is supposed to fix this annoyance?

USB drives are not supported. You dont have the throughput. Check the system requirements for Pro Tools.
