Default Updated OS but should not have

Hi,

I've inadvertently updated my OS from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9. I am using Pro Tools 6.9.1 and I just noticed that this is not compatible with 10.3.9. Is is ok to go back to 10.3.8? I've never gone backwards before!

Any advice much appreciated.

its not a problem, I personally know 20+ users runing 10.3.9 and 6.9.1
with no problems and if you want to use toast 7 and other programs it MUST have 10.3.9 anyways.
Dont worry about it

Remove Quicktime 7 and reinstall the latest version of 6 and most of the problems with 10.3.9 go away. Last I checked there was a special installer to remove 7 and install 6 on the Apple support page.

I would not be doing this except that I've started to have the dreaded kernel crashes again! Anyway, I downloaded the 10.3.8 installer and I don't believe it will replace the later OS 10.3.9

I guarantee the panics have little to with OS being 10.3.9 but more with third party software

I had to do this too, and FWIW the only way it worked was to clean-install 10.3.5 and update to .6 then to .7 then to .8. A pain. As Steve Macmillan said, the problems with 10.3.9 seem to be limited to Quicktime 7, but I found that the reversion program on Apple's site didn't clean up whatever mess QT7 left on my hard drive, which is why I ended up going through the abovementioned pain. I haven't dared update the studio to 10.3.9 yet, but on my other system at home I have 10.3.9 with QT 6.5.2 and it works fine, but I don't use Pro Tools much on that system.

I had the same of trouble recently too. The Apple operating System does not allow you to Downgrade say from OSX 10.4.6 to 10.4.5 So you have to re-install from your original Mac OS disk then go through the appropriate upgrade steps. You may also have to reload PT from your master discs and go through the appropriate upgrades as I did.

Thank you for your help. My problems seem to have started since I updated the OS. I'm not 100% certain as I am not the main user of the Mac at the moment, and I am not always informed when there is a problem. I am however the only one to install new software updates etc. When I did the OS update I did it primarily to get the latest version of Waveburner. I also updated iTunes to 6.0.4. So that's all that's changed on the system. The Mac OS, iTunes and Waveburner. Yet since about then, the Mac can crash running Pro Tools for no apparent reason. I will have to look into this further next week when I have some downtime.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
