Default Background Noise when using any virtual instrument

Hi Guys to help anyone struggling with background pulsing noise when trying to use any virtual instrument.
This worked for me.

Change your Instrument ie midi controller from

All and select your midi controller here select all channels. This now works as it should. I hope this helps and after trying various interfaces and plugins so frustrating, and i know ive seen others struggle with this Please Avid can you please put this on your bug list.

Good luck

Many Thanks

Kimball

Nobody can offer much help with zero information on your setup. For me, in 18+ years of using Pro Tools, I have never had any odd noises with any VI plugins

This makes no sense.
You should perhaps also read your post again, and I do understand why albee was confused.

Also, selecting all or one midi channel on a track or device having to do with background noise??? Come on!

It's possible to have MIDI devices or controllers spewing stuff, maybe random garbage, on other channels and who knows what that does to the VI. Not usually noise, but...

That, maybe along with a broken VI plugin are the main explanations I can think of that make sense.

Guys for weeks I’ve had this issue do you honestly believe I’d waste my time making up stupid spurious noises. I’ve tried with every virtual instrument . I’ve tried two audio interfaces 3 keyboard controllers weird. The same result. Low rumbling pulsing sound shows in the meters and heard on the monitors. It was a solution to a problem that was solved by changing from all instruments. Now please do video call and watch I have no problem whatsoever
You’d be welcome Ben Jenssen

Kimball, I really didn't mean to be dismissive or condescending in my reply. My point was that midi in itself does not produce audio, it's just digital code that tells plugins, programs or devices to do things that makes audio (usually). Also, I think your advice should have been a bit more detailed and thought thru if it was to be of any help. Telling people to turn off "All" channel to avoid unwanted noise is not a tip in itself. Like albee said, I've never heard of such a thing.

I can see a scenario where your tip might be appropriate:
If you have a midi/instrument track or device, that you are not aware of, recieving midi at the same time as you are working with your intended recieving track, that might generate audio when you hit a key, and you don't know where it's coming from. Select one specific midi channel instead of "All", and the problem is solved.

The term "background noise" is usually meant to describe a constant even noise, and I suspect that's not you were experiencing.

Let's be friends.

Dear Ben when you spend days having to put up with something so irritating it stops you being creative. I managed to find out how to stop this awful noise quite by accident. As it stopped the problem for myself, I thought I’d share this as soon as possible so others didn’t have to put up with this noise. Ok let me explain, a clean project audio track, busses are all working fine. But any virtual instrument from xpand to strings, basses, drums VI are all greeted with the same problem. Add any virtual instrument, arm the track to record, the sound starts, not constantly but it’s almost like a slow click track normally mixed with part of the VI instrument. So: click 1234, click 1234, click etc. I change the instrument setting from all and select the keyboard I’m using at the time. The irritating click dissapears completely. It sounds almost clock based as its rhythmic. As I say it’s on a blank project and using any VI.

I’m just glad it’s gone and as I say hope it helps others that may have the same issue. There’s no click track enabled when this happens. But it’s gone and I can
concentrate on music again.

Thanks
Kimball

P.s I’m happy to have a new friend. Please pm me I’ll send video it’s an irritating noise.
