Default AVID: Split this forum into Mac & PC soon!

The title pretty much says it... I'd rather not page through tons of info on ASIO drivers when I work only on a Mac. It will make posts more directly relevant for all users. Thanks.

My vote is to NOT split the thread. There is so much in common that the platform is not the most important issue. I actually dislike the current split between TDM, LE and M-Powered for the same reasons.

About the only time separate threads make sense is to discuss platform-specific issues. It would make so much more sense to have feature-related issues in one common thread, then have threads to discuss driver or platform issues that aren't common to all.

I don't know, I got the impression, that most of the issues, that were adressed so far, are pretty much platform based, like installation and driver problems, plus "will-this-and-that-work-with-PT9" problems, which can also differ, according to the platform.
I vote for the split

We'll get to it soon - we just wanted to get something up for the release. We'll need to reorganize a few other things too, but we'll get to it...

I'm a Windows user, and I would like to see it split...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

It would help if the users would:

a) Create signatures with their system and hardware details
b) Prefix the thread with the platform (Eg. "OSX - Thread heading", "W7 - Thread heading")

I'm in favor of leaving the PT9 forum alone as a central idea exchange and turning the respective LE/MP forums into platform support forums that deal with earlier versions of the software.

I have both platforms.

You guessed wrong. My primary platform is Mac but I use Windows laptops for field work because I had them for other Windows-specific apps. Plus I need a tablet for those and there aren't any for Macs.

I think the most important thing is organizing the forums so it is easy to find a topic. Fewer forums generally make this easier especially when a problem may exist in several different platforms (Mac vs PC) and programs (LE vs M-Powered vs TDM/HD). For example, a problem relating to functionality that exists in the Windows version of TDM/HD will most likely exist in the Mac LE version. Only issues that are related to the hardware itself, drivers or low-level code are likely to exist in one platform/subversion and not others.

In my opinion, that means a single forum for Pro Tools functionality with other forum for platforms and interfaces.

Couldn't you add a couple of custom thread icons with little PC and Mac pictures so then you know if a thread relates to a particular platform?
