Default Re: Digi003 with High Sierra

I have the same problem

new imac 2017 27"; 3.8Ghz
PT 12.8.2
digi 003
high sierra

I bought the new imac. With the old imac (PT 12.8.2 OS el captain; firewire 800 tot 400), everything went perfect.
With the new imac (PT 12.8.2, OS high sierra ; thunderbolt 3 to 2; thunderbolt 2 tot firewire 800; firewire 800 to 400) the imac doesn't recognise the digi003.

Anyone suggestions?

Could you perhaps expand on what you did to 'keep on forcing' it to work?

Many thanks.

Kierinho, I was just removing the 003 drivers and installing again, observing the security window. I do not recall how many tumes repeated but it didnt run after first time somehow. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Does anyone have any idea when an update for the Digi 003+ rack, compatible with High Sierra will be approved?.

Would anyone on the forum reading from Avid care to comment?

Thanks

The 002/003 line is no longer officially supported, so if there IS an legitimate problem with High Sierra and the 003, it will most likely never be addressed.

Still rocking my 002 Console on 10.12.5 with no issues here.

Hello, for what it's worth, this is how I got my 003 to work with 2018 on High Sierra.

1. Uninstall Avid 003 Family Drivers
2. Uninstall 11 Rack and NEVER reinstall it. Don't let Application Manager install it even if it nags you!
3. Disconnect 003 from computer- not just off but remove firewire cable - it is important not to have the 003 connected during installation
4. Reinstall Pro Tools app - whichever version you use - DO NOT Launch app yet
5. Restart computer
5. Install 003_Family_11.1.5 drivers from: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/d...02-003-Drivers
6. Shut down computer
7. Connect 003 to computer and power on computer
8. Turn on computer
9. Open Avid 003 Family in System Preferences and make sure it is connected and choose settings - Optical Format setting should be ADAT
10. Open Audio Midi Settings and choose 003 for sound in and out
11. Launch Pro Tools
12. Never install 11 Rack Drivers

This worked for me. I hope it helps someone else:)

Pretty informative thread!

I’ve been holding off High Sierra for quite a while, and now am thankful!
the DIGI003R+ is still the best Pro Tools interface because of its I/O, routing, flexibility, reliability, etc. Yes, the preamps could be a bit better, but they’re pretty darn good. I have two - one for the studio and one for my mobile rig.
Wishing Avid would develop a Thunderbolt version for the day they make it completely incompatible with Pro Tools.

Just my opinion. Your results may vary.

imac 2017 21" corei5
PT 2008.7
digi 003r+
high sierra

Driver 11.1.5
(thunderbolt 3 to 2; thunderbolt 2 tot firewire 800; firewire 800 to 400)

On my iMac it works fine on a thunderbolt3 connection. If it does not work it is recommended to reinstall digi 003 driver.

Excellent info on this thread.... So I'm thinking of avoiding High Sierra, going with macOS 10.12.6 and updating to PT 2018.10 using my 003R.

But, as 003 is no longer supported, I'm also considering replacing the 003 with a new interface. My configuration requires most of the I/O on the 003.

Any experience and advice on replacing the 003 with an interface with equivalent I/O? And any thoughts on the Focusrite 18i20 included on AVIDs officially supported list? thx

I've had the same issue. I love my 003 but it just won't work with new Mac Pro with Thunderbolt to FW adapters running High Sierra or Mojave. I've tried everything.
I'm purchasing the Focusrite Clarett 8Pre Thunderbolt so I can use something actually supported and get it to work. Tired of dealing with it.
