The smaller Focusrites have been problematic with driver issues etc .. all over this forum but maybe they have shaped up with that . Maybe someone who have had issues can chime in.

I hear you.... On my home computer....Never had an issue but I did have an issue on my laptop. Their customer support did help to solve it.

I think that may only have been an issue on Windows machines. Class compliant on Macs, plug and play without any problems.

2i2 or 2i4 are dirt cheap and all you need in this case. No 'break-out' cables needed either...

There have been issues on Macs with Focusrite's drivers. Input and Output are split, so, unless you use Aggregate, Pro Tools only sees one or the other. Do a search, lots of people are having this issue and Focusrite is aware of it. Their drivers have been an issue on Windows for some as well. As always, YMMV.

Awesome is a strong word to describe Focusrite preamps on their 200-ish dollar inrerfaces

I would second the UA Twin Duo or even Solo and those preamps are "awesome"

hey Weed, in another thread the solution appears to be a New Firmware update from Focusrite - it combines so you do not have to use the Aggregate !!!

cheers john

UA Twin mk11 gets my vote too, wonderful bit of kit, it travels everywhere with me ;-)

Not in that budget though unfortunately.

For me, well I'd never buy Focusrite again. I was suckered into buying a Liquid Mix back in the day, and what did they do when users identified a problem with low frequencies (below 50hz) being processed by it ... they abandoned it ... left users high and dry without a driver that would work beyond Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and never fixed the processing bug ... nice!

But, having said that, I still keep my Octopre LE with ADAT board fitted as a simple ad-da convertor ... it lets you convert both directions at the same time, unlike the newer mk2 models that only let you convert in one direction, which didn't seem like progress to me ... and converting in both directions at the same time is essential if you want to use it for PT hardware inserts.

That focusrite liquid pre always look to gimmicky to me. Though, honestly I never tried it. I've been very happy with other focusrite preamps. I ended up picking up a focusrite 2i2 for this small little mobile rig.
I already have a UA Octo so need need there for more UA.
