Angry MBox 2 Mini and ProTools 9

Running PT 9.0.5 on a 2012 Macbook Pro 13-inch i7 non-retina and TRYING to use MBox 2 Mini as the interface

It'll work fine for approximately 3 minutes, then playback will gradually get noisier, then I 'll get the "CPU usage is holding off USB audio" message, then I'll change buffer size, number of host processors, etc. but after that point it won't even play. Just shows the CPU message again.

I've installed all the latest drivers.

What am I missing?

Hi,

Is the Mbox connected directly into the mac? (not through a hub etc)

Try another USB connection!
Try another USB cable!

Try the mac troubleshooting thread! take your time and go through it carefully and unistall and re-install as per the instructions. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=54888

if that fails the Mbox could be faulty.

Default Re: MBox 2 Mini and ProTools 9 WTF?!?!

Done all that.

New development, though.

PT9 will not show the normal input channels running PT aggregate i/o, MBox, 002, etc. They're greyed out in the i/o dialog and when I hit default nothing happens. In the edit window they all say "error encoding".

This exact same software runs fine on my wife's 2011 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) but is a giant PITA on my mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (also 10.7.5).

Digi won't talk to you after 60 days. Going back to the Apple store to see what's up.

Could it be something with the mid-2012 hardware?

Default SOLVED!!!! MBox 2 Mini and ProTools 9 WTF?!?!

SOLVED!!!!

Shockingly, it's not exactly a Digi issue.

The solution: reset system management.

Shift/control/option and hold down power for approximately 1 second, then lift up. Nothing should happen. Then start up normally.

According to the Apple guy, the problem was the new machines are USB3, and although they're theoretically backwards-compatible there are sometimes issues. This totally fixed it.

Hey Digi, is this common knowledge?

I had to yell quite a bit at the first Apple person I talked to who told me to go away the second she heard the words "Pro" and "Tools". But she relented.

Default Re: MBox 2 Mini and ProTools 9 [solved]

Actually NOT solved.

Inputs work fine now, but after about 3 minutes of running the MBox 2 Mini, playback starts getting noisier and noisier. Then when I change buffer size in the playback engine dialog it refuses to play and I get the "CPU usage is holding off USB audio" dialog and it won't play unless i restart.

Re-installed all the latest drivers, trashed prefs, etc. No luck.

Been on hold with Digi for 15 minutes now....

I have now been on hold with Digi tech support for half an hour.

Sure am glad I paid for this "support code"!

USB 3.0 not compatible with MBOX 2 Mini. Might want to post that a bit more prominently on your site, guys....
