Default firewire cable with open end

Hi all

Can I leave a firewire 400 to 800 cable which I want to use occasionally open ended? Plugged into my 003 but not into my mbpso just disconnected at the 800 end of the cable and not terminated in other words

I was under the impression that hot-patching FW with 002/003 can fry the circuit board in the 003(it happened to me anyway)

You definitely need to power down the 002/003 before plugging/unplugging, and were it me, I'd also shut down the computer before plugging/unplugging...

And yes, I know the Firewire spec says it's "hot pluggable", but in this case, several people have learned it isn't...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?
