Default PT 9 won't start up: could not initialize current playback device

This is on a MBP. I want to be able to use it with the built in hardware and I can't find any core audio drivers to install. I uninstalled PT, restarted, reinstalled, repaired permissions, installed 002 drivers, still no love.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem on my iMac and Mbox 2 mini. I've also tried reinstalling both the software and drivers repeatedly and repairing permissions and removing all other plug-ins, but with no luck. I get the same message "Could not initialize current playback device" on all playback engine options (built-in and mbox 2 mini).

Everything is working fine on my MBP though...

Same here, on a MBP, 10.6.4, without any audio interface plugged in.

ProTools won't start up, telling me: "ProTools could not initialize the current playback device. Please make sure that the device has been configured correctly"

What am I missing?

Me as well. I bought it last night and have spent countless hours trying to get PT9 running.

Ive tried every trick in the book. This is extremely frustrating

I had no problems, I first did a complete uninstall then just installed PT9 full installer, it created an aggregate device of the MBP's i/o and it just worked, i did not use any other driver installer and i did not upgrade, I hope this helps.

I downloaded the full install as well and did a clean uninstall of PT8. Ive even gone as far as removing all of my plugins to make sure one of them wasnt corrupt/incompatible.

Even with my 002 hooked up and the drivers installed i still get the same message.
"Pro tools could not initialize the current playback device. Please make sure the device has been configured correctly."

Where would i go to configure it correctly?

I'm not seeing any problems. I installed PT9 on a clean 10.6.4 iMac and Pro Tools launched with the "Aggregate I/O" just fine.
Wow, no LE or Maudio device connected and I'm hearing my sessions with the built in speakers! This is so unreal!

FYI for Windows users!! You need to download ASIO4ALL if you want to use the built in audio devices.

Clearly I'm not the only one with this issue. It would be helpful to be able to contact Avid, but after spending the money on the upgrade, I'm not in the mood to have to spend more money just to get it to boot.
