Venue (new Digi live desk)
from PLASA site
"At PLASA, Digidesign is debuting Venue, its new, state-of-the-art live sound environment. Purpose-built with the rigorous requirements of live sound in mind, Venue embodies an ideal synergy of excellent sound quality, flexibility, and expandability. Venue components include the D-Show mixing console, a digital mixing engine, mix-position digital and analogue connections, stage-located remote control mic pre-amps, and a digital multi-core 'snake' replacement. Venue also supports effects plug-ins and features an integrated Pro Tools recording and playback option." Interesting.... Steve |

Re: Venue (new Digi live desk)
I was at he Plasa show yesterday, sat in on the demonstration and had a as-thorough-as-possible tinker with the console/set-up as I could.
From what I could see without it being in a true live situation? It's an AWESOME piece of kit!!

with the limited number of rotary encoders per channle, how do they deal with accessing multiple plug-in parameters on multiple tracks at once? |

... I have to say that I was VERY interested in the idea of the seperate little stage mixers available for the musicians, etc whereby folks can twiddle with their induvidual monitor mixes themselves (while atill leaving the monitor engineer in overall full control) but my BIGGEST grumble is that when I mentioned the word "Mac", the demonstrator steered the conversation elsewhere... (i.e. PCs) Now, I KNOW I'm biased (and I'm probably not alone here!), but I HATE PC's with a firey passion - so c'mon Digidesign, at least make the darn thing cross-platform! (Of course, as long as it works - and it seems like the desk that live engineers have been screaming for - I guess platform is not exactly "irrelevant", but you know what I mean!)

Also, I can see why the rumours about DIGI steernggn more towards PC's are gainign ground. Reality is, that I think it's going to be too expensive to keep developing for 2 different platforms. So I really wouldn't be surprised to see The support for Apple falling by the wayside. |

Re: Venue (new Digi live desk)
I think about $45,000.00 with a Main Unit and a 96 channel stage rack w/snake.

>Why? As long as it works, why would you care what it's running on.<
And it's much easier and cheaper to build a rugged PC system for a specific job from parts that you can get from many suppliers. To do this with a Mac you'd probably have to buy G5's from Apple and gut them and then repackage them for the road, NOT! BTW, when you see a Digidesign demo at NAB or AES etc., it'll be running on a PC. You'll never see another "spinning beach ball of death" at a Digi demo again.
