Default Really need some info!

I bit ago I posted info about putting together a studio for Narration or Voice over work. I'm now pricing some stuff and I need some Help. I realize that this may be a bit stupid..but hey, we were all there once right? If I got the Digi 001 but wanted beter quality A/D or Mic Pres, what are my options. Meaning..if I had a mackie board and used the pres on that and then the adat optical off the 001 what device would be the best for the a/d conversion...or should I get better mic pres? Thanks so much!

If all you need is one or two pres, check out the Grace Design Lunatec V3 or the Apogee Mini-Me. Both have 2 mic pres and do the A/D conversion. The Grace Design also have BNC wordclock out, so you could use it as a master source for other digital gear.

The Mackie pres are okay. I actually prefer the pres in the Digi 001 over the Mackies, but to each his own.

Then maybe a nice tube mic & your ready to roll.

FWIW, I'd bail on the Mackie console, and get a Focusrite Octapre. well worth the money, usperb preamps and converters, about as good as it gets in the preamp A-D via lightpipe world IMHO.

The mackie pre's aren't any better than the 001's IMHO, just a bit different. The Octapre slays.

Hope this is helpful.

so "where" if I went with the octapre it looks like I'd also have to get an additional card to use the adate light pipe to interface my 8 channels with the 001...am I reading that right?
What i'm trying to do is get an idea of the best gear i can get to use with Protools short of spending the $$ for the HD system. It may be that we'll be able to go with the HD system but just in case i'm helping out with a back up plan...or rather you guys are helping me help out with a back up plan! Thanks! octopre. that's what i'mm saving up for. and yes, you have to get the additional card. but 1250 for 8 great preamps and a/d conversion, plus compressor/limiter..... well worth it. in my opinion it's an amazing deal and perfect for the digi001.

There's also the Presonus Digimax and Digimax LT. I've heard that they are less colored than the Octapre. Focusrite is a nice color though.
