Default Sidechaining: only mono buses showing

So i thought this was a quirk of one particular plugin, but now I see it on Pro Q 3 as well, so this makes twice now.

I have a stereo instance of pro q 3 on my BGV bus. I'd like to use another stereo bus as a sidechain input, but when I click on the key input options, I only see the mono busses:

Any idea what's up?? I have lots of stereo busses in the session....they just don't show up as key input options.

Thanks!

AFAIK, side chain busses have always been Mono only.

This is my understanding as well. Consider what is actually happening with a side chain. To me, it makes total sense that it is mono, because its a method of control, not a method of anything else(and a mono signal covers this)

Bummer.

I guess I assumed each channel would act independently. I'll have to try a multiple mono plugin and see if it lets me use a stereo or MM key input for that...

yes PT sidechaining is still mono only.
It is a misconception that this is okay.
There are instances where multichannel sidechaining is required. There's other DAWs like Reaper and Cubendo that have it.
I've put in a request for it on PT.

What with the focus they've been putting on multichannel formats, I doubt it'll take very long.

Multichannel ADC SCs please, Avid!

I'm AFK but has anyone tried to see what happens inserting the plugin in dual mono?
I have the vague idea that it will still be mono but i am not 100% sure right now

If its that important to you, split the stereo track out to dual-mono and process with a separate sidechain for each side

Yep. Exactly what I was going to suggest.

The use case for a stereo sidechain would be quite low. This is a good solution for those that need it.

Digital Performer has had more than mono sidechaining for all it's existence.

Yes splitting into dual mono is an option but besides being cumbersome it will not offer the full functionality an actual stereo side chain offers.

For instance, if the plugin offers some clever way of reacting to the stereo signal, this will not be available in a dual mono set up.

If you want to use the side chain function of the Fablabs Pro-L 2, for example, splitting it in dual mono will allow you to create side chained brick wall limiting, but with less functionality than the stereo or multichannel instances.
This is what I'm doing to create brick-walled stems.

multichannel sidechains ARE useful, other DAWs DO have them and so should PT.
There needn't be any debate on whether Avid SHOULD implement it, in stead it should be only a matter of WHEN.

earlier you could vote up my idea in ideascale, now you can on Avid link. Please do.
