Re: Aae 9173
I found that. It has CPU 0 thru 7. I remember somewhere it saying I should unclick CPU 0, so I did that. I don't see anything about 2 cores.
Also, would changing the "priority" of PT from "normal" to "realtime" or "high" help? Thx |

Re: Aae 9173
32 GB RAM Intel Core i5-10310U @1.7 GHz 2208 Mhz.
That looks under-powered to me. Then, what drive or drives do you have? Many laptops only have a single drive, and many of those are spinning drives(and almost always are 5400 rpm). If your laptop is running a 5400 rpm drive and you are trying to record to that same drive, its just not going to work. You might try Reaper or Cakewalk(by Bandcamp) as they both are much less picky about system specs(plus, Reaper is free to try and cheap to buy, and Cakewalk is free).

Dell Latitude 5510
Sold State drive It's just so random when it just stops recording/playing with the CPU error. There must be a way for this laptop to handle Protools. |

Re: Aae 9173
+1 re: slow CPU base clock. Make sure you do ALL the AVID recommended optimizations. Don't skip any. Kill useless startup processes. Quit other programs. In Pro Tools, use large buffers, Processor Affinity/Processor Priority, disable Video Engine (if not using video), bump up the Disk Cache, use non-CPU hogging plugs (for example AVID stock plugs), and use AudioSuite or Commit.

Re: Aae 9173
Does it help to 'Ignore Errors" in playback engine?

Re: Aae 9173
The list of optimizations is incomplete in terms of I have no idea what to disable. There is stuff on that list that just isn't there. I did everything I could find. Set affinty, unclick 1 cpu thing, I took out all the Dell stuff, but There is so much I just don't know. Is there a more complete list? Something that the steps to find a fix actually line up? Can I just run PT at 512 (or 1024) samples while tracking and use Low Latency Monitoring, so I hear thru the Apollo? Any specific help would be hugely appreciated. It works fine until a random spike giver the error message. Happens during recording and playback, but only sometimes, and after say 30 seconds or so.

Re: Aae 9173
I noticed the Apollo buffer stayed at 256 even when I changed PT to 1024. I have them now both set at 512. Could it be as simple as that? Probably not....

Re: Aae 9173
Which exact AVID optimization steps are you having trouble with? Please be specific.

Re: Aae 9173
Disable Turbo Boost and C-State Transition (BIOS)
I can't find this, but it says not every computer has it. So there's that. I also don't have this: Click on the + sign next to Hard Disk. Click on the + sign next to Turn Off Hard Disk After. Click in the value box; the text entry field will now be accessible. In the text entry field, type Never. Click on the + sign next to USB settings. Click on the + sign next to USB selective suspend setting. Double-click where it says Enabled and click on Disabled. Click on the + sign next to Processor power management. Click on the + sign next to Minimum processor state. Type 100 in the Setting (%) text entry field. Click Apply then OK. Click Save Changes. Close the Power Options window. It's there, but no "Hard Disk" option. I believe I disabled Hyper Threading. I forget how...I think in BIOS. I saw that it was "disabled" across all programs somewhere. Everything else I have done, to the best of my knowledge. I have tried to manually install drivers but they always say that they are current and working. |
