Re: Disk Warrior to repair Mac OSX Sierra?
Quote:
If you can't make progress then do what else I said... try booting off some of your cloned backups. If that does not work get another disk and start doing full clean macOS install and see if you can build as stable system. Do not use system migration assassin (assistant) to move apps or drivers. Do full clean installs of all apps and drivers and plugins, starting with trying the minimum you need and testing as you go. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 01-18-2020 at 01:04 PM. |

I have a picture on my cellphone but I don't think I am allowed to post it. Here is a link to facebook where the picture can be seen, hopefully, the link is allowed by the Avid moderator

Re: Disk Warrior to repair Mac OSX Sierra?
The content of all those Log/crash files I am asking about is plain text... copy and paste that Text here. Nobody wants Photos or screen shots when you have the actual text.

Re: Disk Warrior to repair Mac OSX Sierra?
I posted the full report with the panic information in the hopes that it helps narrow down the problem. I am downloading the new OS sierra now, and will buy another SSD drive to start re-building the system, but may be there is an easier fix?

Re: Disk Warrior to repair Mac OSX Sierra?
Unfortunately that machine check does not make it easy to point to anything. But it implies is very unlikely to be a corrupted disk. Machine checks like this are often low-level hardware issues. If it was a more benign run of the mill driver/kext issue you usually hope to see more useful panic info. But not always.
So you should try starting over with that full clean macOS install. If you have any problems there I would open up the Mac and physically remove every PCIe card and disconnect every external peripheral and network connection possible. And boot and see if the problem can happen again (try Pro Tools using Built-In Output). If that solves the issue Power Off and try reinserting/reattaching stuff in batches, and installing the needed drivers, and see if the problem comes back. If testing with a clean macOS install and no cards/peripherals attached does not help then run Hardware Test on the Mac. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257. If this keeps reoccurring, even if hardware test does not find a memory issue, memory is still always a suspect. And you have lots of it installed, so pull DIMMS out in batches and try running with not the full memory. Much more than that and your Mac Pro may need to visit a repair center. And I'll note you have several kext's installed including old iLok (for snowleopard!?!). You should be keeping your system clean and up to date. You also seem to be running SMB disk sharing, presumably to a NAS. When you do a clean install keep all that stuff uninstalled and disconnected until you know the system is working OK, and focus first on just installing Pro Tools and using built-in output with no extra stuff installed. And don't use Apple migration assassin to move stuff software or drivers to your new clean macOS install. Why is the bootprom so old?. Personally I'd keep that up on the latest. But hold off making lots of changes there now if this was working OK before. |

Re: Disk Warrior to repair Mac OSX Sierra?
I just want to thank everybody that helped me with this issue. After many trials, and considering that I am in the middle of mixing 4 features, I was finally able to spend a few minutes dealing the computer issue. As per your suggestions, I looked for and installed my OS back up drive (it is also an SSD that I keep as back up for my entire OS) and re-started my computer and Pro-Tools for the back up drive. I hope it is not too early to claim 'success' but, the back up drive makes Pro-Tools much more responsive and after 14 hours of straight mixing, with extensive automation, and mixing moves, the computer does not crash!!!!!! It still 'slows down; after a few hours of work because for some reason Pro-Tools slows down as you work on it for several hours. In the last 36 hours of intensive work, I still get a lot of 'video errors, Pro-Tools looping the video at the wrong place especially when a lot of sound editing is happening' - this is resolved by toggling the video on and off- and a couple of Eucon freezes... So all and all, there are still major issues with video in Pro-Tools, Eucon, and Pro-Tools slowing down but at least, my specific problem of the Kernel Panic seems to have been caused by a faulty SSD drive.
