there is 8 channels in the unit. first four channels have a mic preamp in addition to the line inputs, but there is still 8 channels.

i think the insertion of trs-cable overrides the xlr-input. or the other way. but most analog consoles i have worked with behave in a similar way. it may be useful behaviour in some installations if you for example have permanent mic lines and for a moment need to hook in a line signal and therefore have no need to remove & attach the regular cabling.

On the front of the 002 there are buttons for inputs 1-4 that switch from mic to line input. That way you could keep them both plugged in and make your choice by using the button in front.

oh yes, you're right. i didn't even think of that other button until now. though i still don't understand why on earth that other button couldn't have been phantom switch... that's what i would have expected in the front panel.

(actually i would expect all those three (phantom/cut/pad) buttons in front panel and per channel, not phantom per channel pair. but that's not a big deal, i can live with it - and my precious presonus digimax lt preamp. actually, that's why i use 002:s preamps only when i run out of digimax:s... oh well, enough ranting. digi has made 002 a really useful piece by putting it to rack. i wouldn't have bought the desk version, ever.)
