Default New monitor messes up I/O settings

I have connected a new large-screen monitor to my MacBook via USB-C. As soon as I did this, when I opened an existing PT session, all my I/O settings were lost. I cleared both input and output settings and restored to defaults but when I closed and re-opened the session, the same problem re-occurred.

Most likely Pro Tools detected the HDMI output as a playback engine and switched too that. Open Seting->Playback Engine and set it back to your normal interface then open the I/O Setup page and default all the tabs.

And if that is the case, if possible on Mac, disable the HDMI audio so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks. Connection is USB-C on both MacBook side and monitor side-not HDMI. Playback engine is set to Quartet.

Hmmm. Crazy. I'm not sure what the problem is if the playback engine is set to Quartet. I know this is thrown around a lot, but still I'd try trashing the prefs as a first step to rule out before continuing the troubleshooting. A call to Apogee support might possibly be in order, as well.

EDIT: I ASSumed you were using a USB-C to HDMI converter. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try that as an alternative, if your monitor has an HDMI input.
