Default M-Audio Axiom 49 & Pro Tools 8 LE

Thanks in advance for your helpful replies.

Yesterday, I purchased an M-Audio Axiom 49. Everything worked fine when I installed the drivers and plugged it up. I sat there for hours messing with the Mini Grand in Pro Tools 8 LE amongst other things. It was great, until it wasn't.
  1. I don't have any sound.
  2. When I press a key, nothing registers in Pro Tools 8 LE. (i.e. the keys on screen on the Mini Grand aren't pressed in either.)
  3. Upon tons of googling and searching this forum, I found setup guides. The first time I did it all correctly and it didn't work. The second time (this morning) when I go into the Peripherals part of the setup the options for "Receive from" and "Send to" only have "none." Like so: http://i49.tinypic.com/t0khec.png

I've done everything I could think of, including downloading Enigma.

Is there anything else that I'm doing wrong? I really appreciate the help.

It seems like you're trying to use the Axiom as a MIDI controller (a MIDI keyboard that plays a MIDI instrument), but the process that you are following (setting up peripherals) is to setup the Axiom as a MIDI Control surface (A MIDI device that moves the faders and other controls in Pro Tools).

In short, You're thinking too much.

All you really need to do:
  1. Create a stereo instrument track
  2. Insert the piano on the track
  3. select the axiom as the MIDI input for the track
  4. record arm the track
That's really all that should be involved. There are some other details that can make things easier in some cases (play the first selected track, etc), but those basic steps should get you going.

Thanks! It's working fine now. I reinstalled the drivers and what not, and then followed your steps and it works. God, that was such a headache. I appreciate it.

You're welcome. I'm glad you got it working.

You might find some other helpful instructions like that over in the "How To" section of my website.
