Default New User - any tips or tricks

I have just pulled the trigger on a 003 factoty with MPT2, an Imac 2.6 20" and a presonus D8.
I have pretty good grasp on protools as it was my editing platform with my old akai recorder and the local digi guys are doing all the software and mpt2 install for me so I am hoping its plug and play.
Any start up tips anyone?
JG

I would probably say make sure you record to a compatible external firewire hard drive instead of your system drive.

Well that kind of depends on what you are going to be using Pro Tools for.

Knowing the shortcuts to navigate through the edit window is very useful. But with Pro Tools there are almost always a few things to do any one thing. I use R and T to zoom in and out. Sometimes I use Option+ScrollWheel. I use Shift+ScrollWheel to navigate left and right all the time.

If you are trying to make money using Pro Tools, try to get clients that pay by the hour.

Make the DUC your place to anser any of your PT related questions. If you have a question, run a search. If you still can't find the answer, post a thread.

A lot of head scratching can be prevented for new users by turning off dynamic transport.

the way I became familiar with protools years ago was to take a look at each single function at the menus, the ProToolsReference Guide next to me.
This should help you to get a sense for the new features
..look.. read..understand

Amen!

oh and if possible get your hands on a session from someone with more experience and see how they put it together. Understand what you need for a workflow, and customize to suit your needs....

An above all....1 feature at a time. Good god it can be overwhelming.

baby steps....

good luck
