That is, 1-2 on the audio track pictured above is probably going to a [main i.e., second] Master Fader that's outputting to speakers.

{I'm only glancing at this topic so may have misunderstood}

@Juan Moore: 1-2 goes directly to the main monitors, no master fader for that in the template.

side note: i do not mix with this template ... got it last year as a subscriber at "mix with the masters". think you can get the whole template at puremix.net too now.

What? No Master Fader for your main Out? Crazy. I always have a MF for my main Out.

Courtlaw if your main outs to speakers are 1-2 don't rename busses 1 & 2 Mix Buss as suggested. Start the renaming using busses 3&4 as your mix bus. That way 1&2 remain your main outs and the mix bus becomes a bus that you can route anywhere within the project for things like bouncing down audio

Courtlaw if you're starting from scratch (e.g. No tracks at all yet) the simplest way to do this is as follows create a stereo master Fader for your project. Name it "to speakers" or main Out/MO or similar. The outs should be on the bus you have mapped to your speakers - I don't know what yours are but they could be 1&2. Mute this channel and you mute your speakers etc

Next create a 2nd stereo MF. Name it MixBusMstr. Left click the "out" of your new mixbus MF and hit new track. Select width stereo and type aux input - name it mixbusmstr and hit create. This will automatically create a bus named mixbusmster and route it appropriately to a new aux track (which probably also outs to 1-2 by default). Rename this new aux track "router"

Now select the Out of "router" with a left click and create a new stereo audio track as you did for router (except type is audio this time) call it "print" and hit create. Again a new bus is created without having to go into your I/o setup. Simply rename the track "song title" and you can record audio to this track.

Because you created that 1st MF you still have control of what goes out to your main speakers no matter how many tracks you choose to bounce down within the session.

If my memory serves me well, I think I read somewhere that Andrew Scheps for some reason doesn't use a master fader. If that is what you want to do,
just route your 'Print' track to output 1&2. If 1&2 go to your interface, you should be able to hear sound without a master fader. But first go to IO and check if 1&2 are routed that way.

Ah. OK. Thanks for info. Seems strange to me having to audition everything through an audio track. Especially since MFs don't count toward the overall PT track count. If folks are new to this they just need to clarify to themselves that Out 1-2 aren't necessarily the same as Bus 1-2. Like you say, check how things are set up in their own io, and change if necessary.

A session doesn't need a master fader. If one isn't present, it's the same as if there was one, set at -0db, with no plugins.

About routing, printing and so on, remember that a tracks output can be set to more than one. (If I remember correctly, the modyfier key is ctrl(mac), start(win).

Personally I usually don't use a master fader, but a aux track called "Masterbus". And it's output is set to both my interface and a "printbus" that goes to a "Print"-track.

Same here, also this allow me to insert a pair of Neve clones preamps for some color when needed, as the last insert in the chain.
