Default 6.1 TDM keeps loading plug-ins from unused folder!

Since I installed Avid Express DV FREE, Pro Tools wont load. On Launch, it keeps trying to load plug-ins from the Plug-in (unused) folder (which are demos) and then tells me that there are two surround mixers in the plug-ins folder and would I please move them.

I tried doing everything listed in the General PT 6.x troubleshooting, but no dice. I've moved the Unused folder to the desktop, but I still get the "two mixers" error and PT quits.

I have uninstalled Avid Free.

For the love of Pete, what now!?

I've experienced the 2mixer thing. You will need to uninstall 6.1 and then reinstall. All should be well. Advid DV Free must of replaced something that is shared with PT That caused PT to not operate.

That's what I'm thinking, too, but I've uninstalled twice now, even from a different user.

But it gets worse: Now PT 6 (fresh installation) has error -1501 on launch. Nothing in the answerbase about it. God, this sucks.

Doing an Archive & Install and re-updating to 10.2.6. We'll see. This is so not right.

See Answerbase # 26974

This error can occur any time the DAE (located in /System/Library/CFM Support/) is changed to Read Only. To correct this you must locate the DAE file and Get Info on it (command + "i"), then switch the Ownership to your account (the one that says "Me" next to it), and switch the Permissions to "Read and Write".

Sincerely,
-david

There is also a 1.0.1 version of Avid Free DV, Fix bugs with 10.2.8.

Thanks to you both for the tips.

Funny you should mention the permissions thing. Around the time this happened, the plug-ins folder became read-only (somehow) and I couldn't remove any from it to test this out until I'd fixed the permission on the folder. How does this stuff happen? Repairing permissions didn't help overall, but that's very interesting.

My clean install made everybody happy again, but I can't help but blame the Avid Free DV for cocking this up.

Thank you.

Same things happened to me when trying the AVID DV Free program. Re-installing Protools has not helped....I even re-installed OSX. This is ridiculous.

Yeh, but that is the version I installed, and it caused the same problem [PT won't boot because it sees duplicate plugins] so it has no fix for the PT bug.

My gosh, this happened to me also. I suspected the free Avid install.

First it kept trying to load all the demo plus-ins that i have in a Plug-Ins (demo) folder. And even after I removed everything except the Plug-Ins folder from Library/Application Support/Digidesign it still insisted that I had two mixer plug-ins present. When i removed the mixer plug-in it said i needed at least one. Put it back it said i had two. Weird!

I ended up having to remove every digi file from the System/Library/CFM Support and Library/Application Support/Digidesign and reinstall PT6 and update to 6.1 - at least with OS X and the iLok that part was easy. The other 3rd party plugins i just dragged back after I got PTs running again.

But it was a waste of an afternoon.
