Default Upgrade Opinions

Hello,

I have a ProTools PC and am actively using PT11 and wondered if anyone has an opinion on upgrading to the latest version of PT Studio? Any real advantage? Not really a for hire studio but use it for different band projects. It is an older build of the PTPC so compatibility may be an issue?

My opinion: upgrade.

Can you provide your system specs and maybe someone here will let you know if you're able to upgrade with your current system?

It's a ProTools PC running Windows 10 Pro, Intel I7-4770K @ 3.50GHz, 32 gig of RAM, x64 based, not sure on the video card if that matters. What other info do you need? I don't have it in front of me.

I have basically the same computer, although not from PTPC and the latest W10. I do have Samsung EVO 970 SSDs. I can run up to the latest 2023.12, but have reverted to 2023.6 because the video window doesn't remember it's size past 2023.6. I don't do large sessions, so YMMV.

If you detail the kinds of sessions you normally do, others may be able to point out features added since PT 11 that you could take advantage of. For me it's Disk Cache and custom keyboard shortcuts.

I do basic 20-25 track recordings of my bands then mix down for rehearsal reference and distribution. Do some automation and a fair amount of plug-ins but nothing really super in depth. Don't do a bunch of outboard gear and not much midi work at all. Mostly live takes all in the cans using a X32 as an interface. I get very good results IMO.

That CPU is too old for Windows 11. You can still run W10, but sometime in 2025 there will be no more W10 security updates. At which point, I would upgrade the computer & OS. Or else ... just run W10 but keep it completely off the internet. That'll keep you running for a while longer.

Okay thanks, and I am guessing you want to be running Win11 to get the benefit of the PT upgrades?
