Changing volume of grouped tracks
Hi everyone,
it might be me misinterpreting the functionality of edit and mix groups but shouldn't it be the case that if I create, say, a drum group with 12 tracks and I move the volume fader of one of those tracks in an active group all the other faders should move relatively to that fader? I know it is possible with a VCA and I do use that but is that really the only option to simultaneously change the volume on more than one track? I'm pretty sure I saw people doing that only by grouping or selecting several tracks without using a VCA but maybe I'm just confused. Software used is Pro Tools 2018.12. Thanks in advance for bringing some light into the dark :) |

Re: Changing volume of grouped tracks
When you are creating the group you have to specify what parameter you want to be grouped, including volume, mute/solo, pan, etc..

Yes, I've done that (I suppose): https://imgur.com/a/e0sN9C3
So I have "Follow globals" activated on each group and the settings are as shown on the screenshot linked above. Is this maybe where I'm doing something wrong? |

Re: Changing volume of grouped tracks
Well, my has brain has been melting over this issue for months now and now I just found out what the problem was: It works only as long as there are no Aux tracks in the group. Since I usually add at least a kick and a snare aux in a drum group, this didn't apply anymore.
I feel a bit dumb now but at least the problem is solved. :) |

Re: Changing volume of grouped tracks
Now it gets embarassing: That wasn't the problem either. The truth is: It works as long as there is no VCA assigned to the group. Sorry for the mess I created.

Saw your follow up. Yes, a group used for a VCA can't then be used for group functions. What you can do (and I do) is double the same group. One group letter assigned to a VCA and the other (of the same tracks) just grouped.
