Default This has never worked for me....

....I have never been able to open documentation by clicking 'help- documentation' (i.e. PT hotkeys, reference manual, DV toolkit manual, etc.). All the .pdfs are in the correct directories. I have been a PT user for over 4 years now and have always used the hardcopy manual so I've never bothered trying to solve the issue. Also, since I'm on the subject, the hotkeys for the menu commands have never worked, either (i.e. alt+f, alt+e, alt+O, etc.).
Is there anyone else who has had these issues and solved them? Thanks!!!!!

Documentation download

They separated it from the program download to reduce the size.

Thanks for the reply but I am not sure if I made myself clear =0).
I HAVE the documentation but it will not open up while in PTs using the help- documentation menu key.

the documentation download also contains an installer which fixes it for you.

the menu keys don't work in pro tools because pretty much every key combination is taken over by pro tools shortcuts.

Chris, thanks, I did use the installer but it didn't fix the issue, maybe I need to try it again.

Madrock, that makes sense except for the fact that there are little underscores under the file menus, as in Windows apps. If the menu hotkeys were not supposed to work, why would the menus be marked liked that?

Thank you both for the responses...

In one of the 6.x versions, Digidesign changed the location where the help files are expected to be. Search the DUC and you'll find posts with the correct path. If the files are already installed, but in the wrong location, you just need to copy them to the right place.

Hey, the same thing was happening to me for a while. I tried every location and it still didn't work. Right click on the pdf file and under "open with" make sure it says whatever version of adobe acrobat reader you are using. That's what worked for me.

hey there Guit4Brains
i just fixed this on my setup. i'd lived with it for awhile and finally thought i'd fix it. looked at the threads and the issue for me was renaming the actual .pdf files.
as long as they are in the right folders i.e. "C:\Program Files\Digidesign\Documentation\Pro Tools"
(for me it is E:\...)the user guide should be named 'PT Reference Guide.pdf' and replace underscores '_' with spaces.

give it a try.
