I will have saved the extra cost of buying back in to a new version by not paying subscription fees for PT12, which offers me no extra value.

I do agree that it would be good for all of us (including Avid) if they got their s@#t together.

I hope they read and take notice of your well written letter.
I wish i would have skipped 12. You did the right thing. If 12.5.1 is solid i will be ok. But so far 12 has not been good for me. So im hoping 12 comes through. So far its been 599.00 burned. And i dont see much extra value in hd other than i have the hardware.

I'm surprised you see any extra value considering the once HD only features, that went to vanilla. Another sign of Avids desperation in trying to keep up with their competition while sitting on their hands.

Indeed; hardware aside, HD has been de-valued.

This is so true, also for post production users. Much Money spend on little effort.

Cheers

Maik, yes. Thanks for pointing this out: post production is a significant part of the PTHD community, arguably one of the linchpins.

And don't forget the words of the three Avid guys all called Tony in the Webinar Q&A session that accompanied the Pro Tools 12 announcement ...

In response to a question on what new features could HD users look forward to, the Tony that is responsible for Pro Tools' Tech development said that currently HD development priorities were on 'improving stability and integration when using HD software with its large format consoles.

He further went on to say that new features exlusively for HD were planned, but that this was more of a longer term objective.

I might be misreading, but to me, Tony's first comment had a degree of certainty and authority about it, whereas his second comment came across more hesitantly, and was thus unconvincing. I was certainly left with the distinct impression that there would be no significant HD only new features anytime soon.

I wonder, is that webinar and Q&A session still available to watch online anywhere?

What a well thought out, well written, sincere and respectful letter. What a shame no one from Avid will respond here in the forum. Where's Tony?

Wax. Perfect letter and expresses a lot of the frustration we long time HD users feel. Like I said when Waves decided not to make DSP AAX plugs--We're all Native now. And the processing works fine. It's the Latency that sucks. But that's how it is now. And there is not much advantage in being HDX. For tracking, an HD Accel rig running 10.3.10, may still be the most powerful beast under the sun. The transition has been long and bumpy. And in some ways, it's still not better.

Thanks, all! Justin1524, Extreme Mixing -thank you for the kind words. Nigelpry, I agree with your sentiments, I'm hoping they address this. HD users could use some renewed focus. Barry Johns, we really hope they do read, good to have your voice on the thread.

I'm sure I'm on my own with this but whatever. I think it's so stupid for you guys to be pissed that some HD only features went to Vanilla. It's not like we got new features. We just got hand-me-downs that you guys have already have for years. What you really/only should be pissed about is that you guys paid a lot of money for NO new features. That definitely makes sense. But to be mad because vanilla got some old features is weak. You would have still paid the same money for nothing either way. Vanilla getting some old HD only features did not devalue your HD setup for the fact that the features we got were not things that people buy HD for, IMO. I personally wouldn't have bought an HD license just for those features and I doubt anyone else did it ever would.
