Default Re: Avid YOU Are Almost Out Of Time

I think, it would be okay to pay 650€ for updating to the last PT HD version,
but only if there are improvements over the old version, that justify the costs

we all have paid really a lot of money for Avid software and hardware, but with subscribing to the "support" plan, we would loose to much

So it´s impossible to sell the Protools rig - no license transfer possible,
the hardware is locked to the software
Who would buy a used card, if the software is not available? etc
So we are not only paying 650€, we pay a lot more, because the whole
thing is unsalable

And only forcing people to pay, without any equivalent, is simply
not enough to convice me to update

I agree, your service plan should be extended free. But, I think it should go even further. Avid should extend it for one year from the date they finally release a stable, fully functioning version of 12.

This.. is why ive started 3 threads on this subject.

One poster here says he works at a place with 15 hdx rigs..And they simply say "whatever". But he [ the poster] is not the owner of the company per se..

Many owners of studios have small margins. even here in LA a lot of the bigger music studios still have 192s and HDxx cards.

For us at our studio in Hollywood the new features [track freeze] are more composer specific. Not a tracking necessity.
I would upgrade but, this is kind of.. a rip

As Christopher rightly pointed out the price dif of LE 99 to HD600 is just profligate in light of the differences in the SW

Fair - this would imply there is an equivalent system that costs less. For HDX - this is just not true. It offers a unique combination of features that has no direct replacement. Until this changes - fair does not apply. You don't pay the HD service plan for the software - you pay it to be able to use your hardware - and said hardware doesn't work without it. You used to get a whole bunch of unique SW features but today these are less.

I think this is an incredibly stupid marketing plan - but that matters little to AVID. They could have just as easily kept all the HD features in HD, marketed it for $1000 a copy with lets say a $399 service plan and sell it to all that wanted it. Instead they put their foot down and said "anyone who doesn't NEED to run this software can just leave - those that NEED it will have to pay way more than seems reasonable". Fine I said - and sold my HD rig....

Although Im a new user to pt12 vanilla...all the subcription talk that has been going on since i got pt12 is making me say screw this. For 200 bucks I can renew my plan for a year before Dec 31st for PT...or spend 200 bucks on logic or...spend a few dollars more on steinberg or studio one and be done with pt. Not upset, just tired of updating software every month. Not that others dont update frequently but this whole thing has me scratching my head.

Running it, verses it actually coming out of your personal pocket are two very different things. I have an operation budget of over 10 million a year that I am personally responsible for, and personally make every single decision as to what that money is spent on. I can assure you, that its much easer to say no problem when its someone else's money.

So let's do some more math:

$599 for use during 2016, $399 for use in 2017
$999 to buy back in as of 2016

Same price to wait 2 years... Hmmm.... Decisions, decisions...

You are assuming Avid doesn't do what they have always done. Lower the price after the majority pays full price.

$599 now or less when they put it on sale? Hmmm....

Has anyone ever payed more because they waited to buy an Avid product?
