Default What is the TFX File Format?

Anyone know what format the TFX preset files are encoded in? Are they encrypted?

I would like to build a reader that can interpret the values contained in the files. This would be a free reader that would be very valuable to Elevenrachpresets.com users and others. The idea has been tossed around over there, but I am not getting any feedback on the file coding. The utility would simply list the status and settings for the models.

Is it possible to get information to access these files without causing Avid any problems?

I doubt Avid would give out this information for free.

And maybe im looking at this wrong, but wouldnt it be easier to just require the person uploading a rig to post the setting in the comment section?

To me, it just seems easier to load the rig and listen to how it actually sounds. Even if you see the setting, you dont know how it sounds until you hear it. Maybe you could expand on how this would be a valuable tool. Im interested in hearing the reasons.

There's no specific encryption of the .tfx files. .tfx is simply Avid's Plug-in Setting file type. Look in any Plug-in Settings folder and you'll see the same .tfx extension.

I'll look into the other issue, the little app which would provide details of what's in a rig without having to manually look at everything. We may have something for you.

It is very helpful for a quick glance and editing. Digitech files are in straight forward XML and are easy to edit, you can even cut and paste. If you know XML and/or are a programmer you can modify items quickly with out creating a "bad preset".

I know there are ways to do a lot of this in Pro Tools, but you have to load Pro Tools. This would get us closer to a stand alone editor without real time access. It is not the best solution, but helpful none the less, and it wouldn't take me long to build a simple GUI to display the settings.

This would be nice, do not really need other abilities. Thanks

That makes sense i guess. I can see how that would help some. Guess I didnt "get it" at first because I ALWAYS have Pro Tools open (its open right now in fact) and its just easy to load rigs and hear them.

But if you are not a constant PT user, I guess this could be helpful, even though you still have to Launch PT to load the rigs you download.

I love Pro Tools, but I do not always have it open. I mostly only have it open when recording, sometimes for patch editing, but most of my patch editing is done on the 11R front panel.

My guess is that a Stand Alone Editor is not far away

The lack of an editor is really the only thing I disike about 11r.
I play in 3 different bands and am constantly having to rebuild patches for each gig.

I don't run Protools as my PC doesn't have enough RAM.
being a pro muso with young kids means I don't havelots of spare cash.

Stand alone editor please.........
