With your new MBP did you max out your RAM? I hope so, because you can't upgrade after if you got a 'retina'.

That'll be good, should have no problems. Be sure to do all the optimizations that Avid recommends. What OS did your MBP come with? Whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE IT TO MAVERICK! If it doesn't already have it.

OSX Mavericks is not currently supported. There are well documented issues. Do you have PT 11 installed already?

That drive will be little use, it may work, but it more than likely will cause problems as it is not fast enough. As previously mentioned 7200RPM min drives are what will work. That drive would be good for a backup drive.

Did you get your interface working?

Maybe you can contact Apple and ask to NOT have OSX 10.9 installed. I'm not 100% sure, but you may be able to use this combo updater to roll back the OS:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676

Who knows, you may get lucky and maybe it won't show up with Maverick. Did you get Pro Tools yet? If you're looking to purchase it, keep in mind that you can get an 11rack w/ PT11 for the same price as protools alone.

Check it out on Sweetwater of B&H audio.

Unfortunately no. I would stay away from all 5400rpm or "green" drives.

Just a waiting game. Avid has not yet released any Mavericks compatible software, but they will eventually. Until that you can just update your iPhoto library and whatever...

WD Blacks are the current kings of hard drive performance. Grab one of those and you should not have a problem.
