Default Clip Gain db value missing by the slider - PT 11/Win

Hi folks,
I'm missing the db numeric value by the Clip Gain Slider. Is there a setting in the preferences I keep missing on this? Thanks tons for any help.

Take care,
Billy

Jaja. View menu, Clip, Clip gain info should be ticked.

Shift-control and the plus key toggles clip gain display, but if you're seeing the little slider and no value it means you've got clip gain changes within the clip; to see those you'll need to display the clip-gain automation line. Shift-control minus key toggles that display.

best,
rich

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the super keen keyboard shortcuts. I always seem to "misplace" those in my head after grazing through the manual. But I'm still not seeing the numeric value on new tracks... even with no Clip Gain automation or changes on the audio track. What the heck is that all about? Thank you for the help Rich. If you think of anything else, just say the word.

Thanks a whole bunch everyone.

Peace and tons of it...
Billy

Hey Billy - So are you *sure* there's no break points in the clip-gain automation line? Try this: select a clip (and possibly surrounding clips) and clear clip gain (shift-control-B, or edit->clear special-> clear clip gain). See if that restores the dB display.

best,
rich

Dear Rich,
Thanks again bud for piping in 'round here. But alas, no numeric values by that slider still after your suggestions of clearing clip gain stuff. I should have mentioned that even when recording new audio... the slider is all by itself... no decibel numbers showing. So for some reason, clip gain cleared or not cleared, that dang thing is missing. I've gone through everything in the preferences, settings, view menu, and can't find anything that would get those numbers back. They're missing on all files.

Again Rich, so much thanks to you for giving this a go my friend. If you think of anything else, within reason ;-) that may help, I'm all ears.

PS. Pro Tools 11.3.1 on pc.

Smile tons,
Billy

Try downloading and opening this session:

Do you see clip gain dB indicators? If not, something's wacky in your system. If so, then there's something funny in that session.

best,
rich

I get this a lot. Mixing away and suddenly the clip gain value disappears. Then miraculously reappears after a while, usually after a few zooms and moves. Think it might be a weird bug of some sort

I observe this with a clip (that has NO clip gain, wether static for the whole clip nor dynamic within the clip), that is cut somewhere and then "separation healed".
Funnily, clearing clip gain on this newly healed clip without any clip gain - restores the dB indication next to the slider.
