Default Studio Manager & PC Communication

This is the closest category that I could find related to my issue.

Might anyone know how to use the Yamaha Studio Manager (as stand alone software) in conjunction with a Motif-rack ES (in order to operate the racks filters, eq, etc.) with a Digi 002?

As per the SM manual, for an incompatible DAW like Pro Tools the rack should connect via usb. After setting up the specifics in the Usb/Midi and Driver setup windows (pics below) you should be ready to import the bulk data from the Motif. When I attempt to do that I just get a weird feedback loop which stops once I change an instrument on the Motif manually along with a timeout error.

Does anyone know how to get the motif and the computer to communicate properly? I'd be grateful for your help.

Studio Manager is an old and outdated piece of software that never really worked very well in the first place.

Have you installed the Yamaha MIDI drivers? And set up your midi ports correctly? Your screen shot shows no midi interface selected for the remote input port. That's usually a bad sign.

Also, I'm not sure what you are trying to do with the 002 and the Motif rack together. It sounds like the computer isn't talking to the Motif. Contacting Yamaha support would be your best option.

Thanks for replying.

Sorry about that. I actually did have something assigned to the Midi in Remote Port I just neglected to take the screenshot at the right time. I updated that picture.

My end goal is that I'm trying to operate the motifs filters, eq, etc. using the Studio Manager software.

I would consider calling Yamaha. Do they have good tech support?

Any other comments appreciated.

I saw a YouTube video of a guy choosing his usb port as the MIDI In/Outs. (Different device)

Yamaha has very good tech support. However, I have only dealt with their tech support for their live sound division.

Thanks. I'll give them a try this week. Provided that a solution isn't found before then. I'm still hoping.

Have you asked on the Motifator.com forums? That might be a good place to get the info you need.
