Default Alesis - DM10 Pro Kit

So i just picked one of these up semi-(new)(used) for a pretty good price.

I really just want it for my studio to control BFD3 (ha just kidding) BFD2 but it may have a couple of nice kits there to use.

Any one with any expierences with the unit....??? Things I should look out for?

Possible I could take it out live....(Im not the drummer) just b/c it's such a small footprint compared to a real acoustic set.........

Thanks

Not having BFD, there may be some minor hurdles to overcome, but it SHOULD work fine. Hurdle #1 is the note assignment(so each pad triggers the desired sound in BFD). With SD2 and ezdrummer, my Roland kit triggered almost all the right stuff be default(maybe Alesis used the same note mapping)!? Hopefully, you'll get lucky on that, but it should not be too tough to change the midi note assignment in the Alesis brain. FWIW, Addictive Drums has templates for many drum modules(selecting Roland TD worked great here). One change I made that worked very well was to use a real hihat

Check on the unoficial Alesis forum, the answer is there. There is drum maps that exists for the DM 10 fod SD2, I'm using them for the DM 8 pro because the brain is the same (except the dm 10 has more connection). There should be a drum map for BFD2 and the instruction on how to use it.

Here's the BFD2 one for the DM 10 specifically hope it helps

I added the Surge cymbals to my Roland kit too. Very pleased with them! The hat trigger wasn't bad(and better than the original rubber pad), but a real hat can convey way more nuance

I'm thinking of switching to surge cymbals too (hi hat 2 to 3 crash and the ride), how much louder are they from the rubber pad?

Not louder by any serious amount(heck, they might be quieter) They are coated top and bottom with a thick clear vinyl "skin". Plus the ride has dual output jacks so you can set it for the Edge/Bell?Bow triggering like the expensive Roland ride cymbal trigger I bought a 3 pack off eBay, then went back and grabbed another crash.

That's cool, my ride is already a dual/tripple zone (bow edge, bow and bell) (2 jacks)+choke. So that would be the same?. The crash from what I read can also be dual zone+choke?

And if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get the set from ebay for?

I know I either have to change the brain for a dm10 or add through the midi jack a trigger I/O.

I'm tempted to change for a td 30kv, the brain seems to be more usable to get some very fine details out of the drumming in combination of the mesh heads (which I'm getting to find superior to the dm 8 / dm 10 nylon heads, haven't been able to use a brush on the snare to pick up the slip of the brush on the head), as long as BFD2 or SD2 can pick it up. But the friggin silver cymbals???!? Really want to puke when I look at that.. who thought that silver would be a wow factor?

I don't know about silver cymbals but the silver rack that I got to mount the DM10 kit.....Wowzer.....That thing looks tight.......

I got mine in yesterday....Nice looking but I hven't finished setting them up yet........I think alesis did a great job.

It doesn't even matter what the kits sound like in the head b/c I will just use it to control BFD2 at this point.

I wanted to be able to take them live but its quite a little chore to setup that set again....i don't think that is gonna happen

Default Re: Alesis - DM10 Pro Kit

i use a hybrid roland kit. module is a td 9. the pads are a mix of the high end large roland mesh pads for the 4 toms and snare, and the nicer cymbal pads from the 9 which has a 3 zone ride, and got a 2nd 3 zone and a 2 zone cymbal and a 2 zone hi hat. works damn good!!

i do not use the pre made maps in bfd 2. i might get one close but always have to tweak it for some reason. it is terribly easy to set the maps up in bfd. i do it all the time for different things i might need. just be sure to save your map presets with the session. if you do not and the mapping changes for some reason, it can cause you a nightmare. if you are on windows let me know and i have a backup app for bfd 2 for all the presets, maps, kits, etc, i use when i need to restore partitions and such or for general backup reasons.

not sure if you have been using bfd for awhile or new to it, but you must check out the platinum sample banks. they are amazing to say the least. i ended up with all of them and dont regret the purchases 1 bit. they are all i use.
