Default Please recommend a cheap controller.

Hi.
I’m thinking about getting a cheap 8 fader controller for pro tools.
Faders need to be motor controlled.
I want to use it for drum balancing.

I would like to be able to mute/solo each channel along with being able to control send amount on each channel (just one send). Pan as well. (How does a single pan knob work on a stereo drum track? Does it work at all?)

I don’t want to go the eucon route (too expensive for my needs).

What can you recommend?

I have been looking at the icon x+ and the Behringer x touch compact.
I don’t need a jog wheel etc.
I would like the controller to be as small as possible, in the sense that I don’t want extra buttons for stuff that I don’t need.

Thanks:)

I know you said you don’t want to go eucon but The older euphonix artist mix (8 faders and relatively small frame) can be found for $300-400 if you look hard and ethernet blows away usb for speed and sensitivity. Test their compatibility with new pt versions to be sure.

If you have an ipad or iphone you may have a controller that is free to try. The pro tools app is free and many third party companies make iphone controller and cost varies.

Grouped tracks can respond to one fader and Stereo tracks respond to one fader and vcas are controlled by one fader. :)

I like the iPad app, but want physical controls.
I was wondering about stereo tracks and one pan knob. Not the fader. But thanks:)

Still want to see if I can avoid eucon, but will be open for it.

Same boat here. The iPad app is incredibly useful, but it would be great if someone made a bank of 16 faders, 16 rotary controllers, and transport control that don't do anything but levels, pan and transport. For stereo panning a shift key with the pan knob could control the 2nd panner.

The Command 8 can be had for cheap, bullet proof, still works.

Replace the silly 'gumdrop' fader caps (or not).

The command8 is just so darn big though. And I think it only supports hui. Then I might as well get a small Behringer.
But thanks for the suggestion:)

Presonus Faderport8 can be had for around +-$300 and works great with PT according to the web. Small footprint and motorized faders and knobs.

Thanks. I will check it out. My first impression is that it is a tad bigger than what I would have hoped.

But thanks:)

Most devices handle stereo panning by using the SHIFT button. From your replies to other suggestions, the Artist Mix is probably your best choice. Qcon makes some HUI units that are worth a look before you pull the trigger on anything
